Hale U3A – Learn, Laugh, Live

David Zucker took up the post of Chair of the Hale U3A in June 2023 and is keen to spread the word about U3A around our community in order to attract younger as well as older new members.

The U3A is a UK wide movement that was founded in 1982 and is for people who are no longer in full-time employment. It’s an opportunity for them to explore new ideas, skills and activities together with like-minded individuals. Hale U3A is a vibrant and lively organization with 870 members who attend over 70 interest groups that range from Painting and Canasta to Local History or Beer Appreciation. The latest addition is the MOTO social group (Members on Their Own).

Our u3a in a nutshell

  • Self-help education, creativity and leisure activities.
  • Social events, holidays and Day Trips.
  • Monthly talks for all at the Bowdon Rugby Club (£1).
  • No exams, no accreditation, just pleasure.
  • £12.00 annual membership fee and an initial £3.00 joining fee (Discount applies Jan – end March)
  • 850 members.
  • 80+ subject groups (Ancestry to Yoga).

There really is something for everyone & David wants to emphasise that Hale U3A welcomes all new members regardless of their background or ability (members can bring a carer for free) and there is a Buddy Driver Scheme, so that non-drivers are not left out.

There is a monthly speaker meeting at Bowdon Rugby Club as well as outings & social events throughout the year. Some of the sportier members are looking to organise a team that will represent U3A at the next Altrincham 10K – so watch out for them! Contact hale.u3
