Twiddle Muffs are knitted muffs with items attached to keep dementia patients’ hands active and busy.
Twiddle Muffs contain strands of textured ribbons, buttons, and various fabrics attached both inside and outside. Our clients with dementia often have restless hands and like to have something to keep them occupied. A Twiddle Muff provides a wonderful source of visual, tactile and sensory stimulation while keeping hands snug and warm at the same time.
The team here at Home Instead Altrincham, Sale & Wythenshawe have spent the last couple of weeks collecting lots of wool, yarn, ribbons, buttons and trinkets in order to put together small starter packs for people in the local Trafford community to make their very own Twiddle Muff. We attended The Larkhill Centre’s Christmas Craft Fair in Timperley last Sunday; the packs were a big hit! Thank you to everyone who came down and to the team at the Larkhill Centre for putting together a great festive event!
If you weren’t able to meet us but know someone who would love a Twiddle Muff, then we’d love share the pattern with you! Simply gather your materials, then you’re ready to get started with the pattern!
We’d love to see the Twiddle Muffs you create! Tag us on social media or email your pictures to [email protected]
