Join Lauren Mitchell as she goes behind the Home Instead curtains once more and talks to Care Pro Kirsty Marlow about nail care.
Care Pro Kirsty came to Home Instead with previous nail care experience. She had already achieved NVQ levels 1 and 2 in beauty therapy. So, when it was announced that we were launching a new nail care service to provide our clients with further quality care, Kirsty was one of the first care professionals we wanted on the team.
Kirsty was provided with a full nail care training course as part of her employment with us, which she said was very similar in content and topic coverage to her previous NVQ-level training.
Once Kirsty received her course completion certificate from the accredited NailsIT, we were able to start booking her in to pamper our clients.
Kirsty said she likes the individual branded kits that the clients get to keep. Not only does it help her ensure cleanliness and infection control for the client, but she can also bring top-up items to replenish when needed. That takes the hassle out of clients and their families remembering to check what they need.
When discussing the client’s appointments she has delivered so far, Kirsty immediately lit up when describing the benefits she sees.
“They love it!
It’s a little pamper session that makes them feel good. We sit and have deep conversations about all sorts, and I think they really enjoy that one-on-one time, especially if it’s someone who can’t get out of the house and misses out on day-to-day conversation.
I also think with nails, it’s the instant impact. A lot of the time, if a client has limited mobility or is even restricted to bed care, and they can’t see in a mirror or get dressed up to go out and feel themselves, having their nails done, it is something they can see straightaway, a difference instantly that reminds them of happy times, lifts their mood and builds their self-esteem.”
Kirsty has provided the service to various clients, from gentlemen wanting a simple pedicure to maintain foot health to ladies being treated to a manicure by their family members. She said, “It’s an amazing feeling seeing the clients’ reactions to my handiwork. I go home knowing I have put a smile on someone’s face. And as all care professionals will know… that’s a feeling you just can’t beat.”
As we age, nail conditions like hangnails, ingrowing nails, splitting nails, and brittle nails can be a real pain. With regular Home Instead visits, you and your loved ones can find relief from nail problems that affect mobility and independence.
