Flowing through the town are the crystal-clear waters of the famous River Test, whose course and banks are designated a site of special scientific interest on account of the wildlife.
Laverstoke Mill, formerly a paper mill, now serves as the home of the Bombay Sapphire Gin Distillery, located two miles upstream. Among Whitchurch’s numerous listed and noteworthy buildings is Britain’s sole operational silk mill, still housed in its original 1815 structure.
