Day care can be particularly useful for those living with dementia, Parkinson’s disease, enduring mental health conditions such as depression, or anyone recovering from a stroke. It can include rehabilitative sessions recommended by other professionals such as physiotherapists or occupational therapists, or therapeutic exercise sessions provided by our own specialists. In providing day care for a client living with dementia, we would expect to provide extensive social interaction and mental stimulation. Your fully bespoke care would be delivered by trained, experienced and empathetic carers, who will have been carefully selected for you and who will become your trusted companions.
We offer two types of home care: hourly care, where we visit at set times, or live-in care, where a carer resides in the home. Anita lives in Cliddesden. She is mobile and active, and family members had been taking turns to live with her to help her cope with dementia. As this arrangement became more onerous on the family, they asked us to help. With the family, we developed a four week rota comprising morning visits to help Anita with her personal care on weeks when a family member would be there, relieving the family by providing 14-hour day care sessions each day on other weeks. The 14 hours were spent on personal care, outings including to our own Lets Move seated exercise classes and Lets Sing For Memories at Milestones Museum, walking in the Cliddesden area, reminiscence and other mental stimulation, meal preparation and baking cakes, plus good old chat.

Anita’s story continued …
This worked well, but as Anita’s condition progressed it became clear that she was no longer safe by herself at night. Anita’s family asked us to replace the day care arrangement with full time live in care, so that a carer is now active with Anita throughout the day and sleeps in the house overnight. In addition, one of our visiting carers visits each day to be with Anita whilst the live-in carer takes a daily break.
The arrangement is proving highly successful and working well for Anita. She appears to feel very much more settled, calmer and able to sleep better at night.
