Why Home Care may be right for you

We believe in individualised care. Our team, managed from our office in Basingstoke, will work closely with you to create a domiciliary care plan that meets your unique needs, preferences and routines. Elderly care could include, for example, support with the morning’s personal care, followed by assistance with shopping or an outing to a garden centre, and then help to prepare the mid-day meal; we’re here to enable you to remain independent and comfortable in your own home. As your care needs change, our service will evolve to suit. In close liaison with you at every stage, we will ensure our care visits continue to respond to your particular requirements.

Tailored Home Care in Basingstoke

Jack lives in Chineham and had been living alone since his wife died five years ago. His daughter Sue was getting concerned that he was not eating the home cooked meals that she brought for him and his personal care was not up to his former standards. Sue approached us for help, but warned that Jack was fiercely protective of his privacy and would reject care. Sue introduced us as “someone to make lunch for you” because she couldn’t continue to bring him meals. After a few difficult weeks, Jack was looking forward to his lunchtime visitors who would prepare meals with him, doing the difficult and boring bits for him whilst having a good chinwag at the same time. Jack started enjoying his food again and looked altogether healthier.

Trusted Home Care from experienced home care professionals in Basingstoke

Continuing Jack’s story…
With a re-kindled interest in meals, Jack started going with his carers to Chineham shopping centre to buy the food, and stopping for a coffee and cake whilst there. This soon broadened into exploring other places to visit for a cup of tea around Basingstoke. Once Jack had become more accepting of his visitors, the question of his personal care was raised. Yes, Jack would accept some help – someone to wait outside the bathroom whilst he had a shower, ready to come in if he slipped. The effect was transformative and Jack was soon feeling happier, healthier and more comfortable! Sue was thrilled that she had “got her dad back”, and that his acceptance of carers paved the way for evolving home care assistance.

Additional support and activities in Basingstoke

Loss of interest in eating, neglect of personal care and loneliness are very common concerns expressed by families approaching us about home care for their loved ones. Unfortunately however there is often the caveat that he/she is likely to reject care. At Home Instead Basingstoke we are very used to working with families and their loved ones to address this situation. Typically, if acceptance can be found for some form of support, such as a bit of housework, shopping, outings or dropping in regularly for a coffee, then our relationship-based approach enables our care professionals to build the trust necessary to broaden the activities and address other needs of the client.
