The Basingstoke Home Help & Housekeeping team, here to help every step of the way
Our experienced team has been providing home help services to the people of Basingstoke and the surrounding areas of north Hampshire since 2015. Elderly home help can be an ideal way to introduce a loved one to the idea of care support at home. A little housekeeping a few times a week, helping to prepare a meal or helping with the laundry, can set a client up on a care journey which provides the ongoing relationship-based care needed to keep them happy and independent at home. Why home help? Many people might see this as a cleaner’s role, but when we assist with housework it will be from the perspective of a trained and experienced care professional whose objective is to keep an eye on her elderly client’s overall wellbeing.

Managing the home can become unrealistically arduous for the elderly. A trained carer can help ensure the home remains the safe and comfortable place that it should be: keeping it clean, removing trip hazards, doing the more physically demanding tasks or helping to prepare a meal. When our carefully selected and trained carers provide home help it is with a cheery smile and a good dose of companionship, but they will also be looking out for signs of any health concerns and monitoring the client’s demeanour, recording their observations and quickly referring any concerns back to the office for further action. Many clients combine home help with other activities, like medication prompts, personal care or outings.

We are overwhelmed with the sheer professionalism and humanity that your agency provide. You have proved to be very flexible and treat my mother with such respect and dignity. It gives us, finally, peace of mind for the times when we cannot be with mum. For that, we cannot thank you enough.
Jane, client's daughter

Each of the three regular caregivers treats my mother with the utmost kindness and respect, and she looks forward to their visits. Each of the ladies provides a different kind of experience from short outdoor walks to board games to exercise and massage. The visits have enabled her to continue to live independently in her home. I have nothing but appreciation for the work that the caregivers and other staff do, and I would recommend Home Instead (Basingstoke) to anyone in similar circumstances.

David, client's husband

Guy, client's son

Both my parents have been supported by Home Instead for many years and the service is, in all the family’s view, excellent. All the carers have been very professional, friendly, attentive, always going the extra mile, treat their clients with the utmost dignity and all in all provide a top class care service. The management team is also top class, very professional, always quick to respond, always providing solutions to problems, have always provided top class carers, and often come themselves to keep in touch with clients.

Paul, nephew of clients

Setting up care was easy, with a thorough and understanding review of what we needed. We felt very listened to.
Carers are reliable, friendly and flexible, with the client at the centre of everything. They are knowledgeable and skilled.
I feel that my mother in law is being cared for by kind, professional people and she, and I, are very happy.
Jo, client's daughter in law

We really appreciate the service offered by Home Instead in supporting my mother in her
own home; my mother likes all the care personnel that visit and she looks forward to
their visits. We were delighted that Home Instead took the trouble to find out what my
mother likes to do and her interests, and care personnel are a good ‘match.
Client's daughter

I am enjoying the friendly professional and helpful company of my two live in carers
who interchange fortnightly.
Barbara - live-in client

I have been involved with Home Instead Basingstoke, initially through Let’s Move, for four years and have met many of the staff and found them very pleasant and helpful.
Bob on behalf of his partner, Beryl

Very pleased with the care . Every effort is made to provide good continuity of care with
any new carers introduced to our father with an existing carer that dad is familiar with.
The carers arrive on time, are kind, friendly, respectful and provide dad every support
to allow him to stay in his own home. Thank you
Client's son, Neil

We started using Home Instead care team in June last year and I couldn’t have asked
for anything more from them. Right from the initial interview when they came to
meet us we were impressed with them. They seem to have found those ‘Goldilocks’
qualities of having excellent skills, knowledge and efficiency appropriate to the job,
while being kindness itself, not only to my husband who needs the care but also in
offering much needed support to me. I could not ask for more.
Anne, wife of a client

My family did a lot of research before selecting Home Instead. I am very pleased with
their choice of care company.

Tailored Home Help & Housekeeping in Basingstoke
John had a history of falls and his family felt he needed care at home, but John was strongly resistant. When they approached us, we learnt that he still did all his own housework, shopping and cooking, but was clearly finding it increasingly difficult. John’s daughter persuaded him to have us in twice a week to do cleaning, washing and ironing “as a trial”. With some negotiation we were able to make John’s house very much tidier; now able to move around more easily, John was no longer at risk of slips and trips. As a more relaxed John came to appreciate his carer’s company, the subject of food came up and it was agreed that the carer would take John shopping in Tadley each week, and help him to prepare his lunches.

John’s story continued …
John’s daughter no longer felt she was permanently “on call” in case John had a fall, and went on holiday for the first time in years. Whilst on holiday she continued to monitor the visit reports via our app, but said she was “at last able to sleep well at night again, even when miles away”. Reminiscing about growing up in Overton and life with his young family in Hook, John asked his carers to take him to see some of his old haunts. This has developed into weekly outings to explore various unusual places to visit in north Hampshire. John has recently asked for his carers to assist him with a shower twice a week, further reducing his risk of falls and enabling him to remain safer at home for longer.

FAQs
- What specific housekeeping duties can you help with?
We can help with the everyday things that make a house feel like home. This includes simple cleaning like vacuuming and dusting, doing the laundry, changing the sheets on the bed, and even putting out the rubbish. We want to make sure your living space is secure, clean, and most importantly, comfortable.
- Can you help me with my errands and grocery shopping?
Yes, of course. We can either go to the shops with you so you can pick out your own items, or we can go for you. We can also help you with other tasks like picking up your medication or dropping off mail at the post office, so your “life admin” is always taken care of.
- Do you help with planning meals and cooking?
Yes, we do. We can help you plan your meals so you get a good, nutritional diet that you will enjoy. We can help keep you safe by checking the fridge for expired food and ensuring your meals are fresh and healthy. We won’t take over your kitchen – we’ll do as much as you want us to, whether that’s to prepare your meal for you, help you try something new or just peel the potatoes.
- How can you keep people from falling in their home?
A clean and tidy house is a safe house. As part of our Home Help service, we look out for anything that could cause you to trip or fall, like loose rugs or congested walkways, and help you reduce the risk of accidents in your home.
- Can I choose when my carer arrives to help me at home?
Yes. We want to help you maintain your routines, so you decide what regular days and times you would like us to visit. We can come over in the morning to help get the house ready for your day, at lunch time to help with your meal, or in the afternoon if that works best for you.
