The Basingstoke Respite Care team, here to help every step of the way

The 2021 national census identified there were over 111,000 unpaid carers supporting family members in Hampshire, although the Office for National Statistics anticipates that the actual number may be higher. It is important for family carers to look after their own well-being and recognise the need to have a rest. Our respite care service offers them the opportunity to take a break from their caring responsibilities, confident that their loved one is safe, happy and being well cared for. Our elderly respite care would be tailored to your loved one’s needs and delivered by our trained and experienced care professionals to give you peace of mind whilst you recharge your batteries.

Why Respite Care may be right for you

Home Instead Basingstoke regularly considers Family Carers – How We Can Help. One aspect of support that we can offer to stressed family carers is respite care at home. Elderly respite care could, for example, comprise long weekly visits to take your loved one out or provide companionship at home whilst you go out. It could comprise respite day care, giving your loved support ranging from personal care to companionship, outings and meal preparation across the whole day. Or, it could mean providing short term live-in care whilst you take a much needed holiday. Whilst you are away, your loved one will be provided with care which is fully tailored to their needs and delivered by our trained, experienced and understanding care professionals.

Tailored Respite Care in Basingstoke

Richard lived in Old Basing. Although physically fit and very mobile, he had been diagnosed with dementia which made him restless and in need of constant activity. Richard was cared for by his wife, who asked us to take him out for a few hours each week. We would take Richard to the activity of his choice, which was usually bowling at Hollywood Bowl in Basingstoke, mini golf at Basingstoke Golf Centre or to Milestones Museum, each of which would be followed by a drink at his local pub. Richard thoroughly enjoyed his weekly outings, and his wife appreciated the opportunities to get out of the house by herself or just take a rest.

Trusted Respite Care from experienced home care professionals in Basingstoke

Anne lived in Odiham with her daughter. We provided daily morning visits to help Anne with her personal care and prepare breakfast, allowing her daughter to get herself ready and off to work at the crack of dawn. When Anne’s daughter took her overseas holidays, Anne’s main morning carer would move in to provide live in care. As well as the personal care, Anne needed her live-in carer to prepare her meals, offer companionship, and provide a general reassuring presence. Anne loved the attention that she received from her live-in carer and the range of activities they got up to together.
