Earlier this month Mandy and Andrew spent the day at Hessle Feast
Earlier this month Mandy and Andrew spent the day at Hessle Feast. This is a fantastic local festival showcasing lots of local food, drink, crafts, music and more. There were also local charities in attendance raising awareness for important causes across our area.
“What’s Home Instead all about?”
We enjoy attending these events to talk to people about what Home Instead do. Many people are still not aware that care and support in your own home is an option to enable people to remain more independent as they get older. We also take along lots of useful information including our What’s On Where guides bursting with local activities for older people to get involved in, as well as information booklets on preventing falls, nutrition, Dementia, making homes safer for older people and more!
“I never thought about being a Care Professional”
We also enjoy chatting with people about what it’s like to work in care. It gives us a chance to do some myth busting of some of the common misconceptions that people have about this type of job. We’ve met some lovely people this way who didn’t even know they were looking for a new job, but loved the sound of what we do here at Home Instead.
Reducing Loneliness
For the first time, we also did some fund raising for Home Instead Charities UK. Home Instead Charities provide grants to lots of small local organisations to help them set up regular groups or one-off events that help to reduce loneliness in older people. Thank you to everyone who donated.
For those who were feeling crafty, we had a table of card, coloured pens, stickers and of course, glitter. Children and a few adults too created some lovely cards to brighten the days of some of our clients. We had some lovely little notes and messages written that I’m sure our clients will really enjoy reading. We’re looking forward to giving them out over the next few days.
