Who's Who at Home Instead Week 3

This week meet our Care Professional Mentor, Lorraine

Who’s Who at Home Instead

Over the next few weeks were going to introduce you the office team who support our Care Professionals to provide outstanding care.  This week we’re talking to Lorraine who is one of our Care Pro Mentors.

What’s your role at Home Instead?

Hi I’m Lorraine and my role at Home Instead is Care Professional Mentor.

This role is busy and varied and keeps me involved in many aspects of the business.  A main area of focus for me is caring in the community, visiting clients in their own homes to provide whatever care they need to help them remain independent.  I also mentor 19 of our Care Professionals which involves supporting them when they join the team to gain their Care Certificate, carrying out one to one meetings with them, and going out on support visits on a regular basis to ensure that we are all following the Home Instead agreed ways of working.  I also work in the office performing weekly audits on the visit notes for each client, setting up shadow visits for our new team members and supporting other members of the office team.

What did you do before coming to Home Instead?

Prior to working for Home Instead, I worked as an Operations Manager for a Global company managing a team of 80+.  I worked in that industry for over 40 years and whilst I enjoyed it and the challenges, I decided I wanted a change and something less stressful.  I had always wanted to be involved in care so contacted Home Instead, got an interview, got a job and two years later here I am still ‘loving it’.

What does “To us it’s personal” mean to you?

To me it means working very closely with our clients and their families to fully understand their individual needs.  No two clients are the same and we tailor our services to suit each one.  I love the fact that we visit the same clients on a regular basis so that we can get to know them and fully understand and appreciate their routines and needs.  We build some great relationships, and I can honestly say that this does not feel like work.  Its like visiting extended family members every day.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family whom I am very close to.  I have two sisters and a brother along with two nieces, a great nephew Mason who is 4 and a great niece Nellie who is 1.  Watching them grow up is amazing and brings so much laughter to us all.  I love to read, walk and often go fishing with my brother.
