It can be a lovely day out for our clients and families at Home Instead Bournemouth, especially for those who love aviation. With the classic aircraft flybys to enjoy as well as limited accessible parking options, here’s our quick guide to the show to ensure you enjoy the day.
The Bournemouth Air Show, officially known as the Bournemouth Air Festival, has become a highlight of our summer since it began in 2008.
Held annually along our seafront, over the beautiful beaches, it has grown into one of the UK’s largest free air shows, attracting thousands of visitors each year. This event celebrates aviation history, showcasing both modern military and classic aircraft, and it has gained a reputation for its breathtaking displays and family-friendly atmosphere.
The Bournemouth Air Show offers an array of activities and attractions to keep visitors entertained throughout the day. Here’s a rundown of what you can look forward to:
– Modern Military Aircraft: Showcasing modern aviation with performances by the Red Arrows, RAF Typhoon, and other military jets.
– Classic Aircraft: For history enthusiasts, the show features vintage aircraft like the Spitfire, Hurricane, and Lancaster Bomber, providing a nostalgic glimpse into the past.
– Static Displays: Explore aircraft up close on the ground, providing a fantastic opportunity to learn more about aviation technology and history.
– Military Villages: Meet service personnel and explore military vehicles and equipment, offering insights into the lives of those who serve.
– Accessibility: The festival is designed to be inclusive, with accessible viewing areas and facilities for those with mobility issues. Shuttle services and designated parking make it easier for older adults and those with disabilities to enjoy the event.
While disabled parking is available, spaces are limited, so it’s essential to plan your transport arrangements in advance.
There are two accessible car parks available:
– Winter Gardens in Bournemouth Town Centre (BH2 5DJ)
– Sea Road on Boscombe Overstrand, with 250 spaces available.
For accessible viewing, visit Monkey Island at the Boscombe end of the East Overcliff, which offers 80 blue badge parking spaces.
For easy access to the promenade, arrange to be dropped off at the bottom of Sea Road by Boscombe Pier (BH5). Ensure you show your blue badge to the stewards.
Additionally, an accessible viewing area is located on the promenade outside Surf Steps School (BH5 1BN) at the Boscombe end of the site.
– Arrive early: To secure a good spot and avoid the midday crowds.
– Bring comfortable seating: Portable chairs or blankets can enhance your comfort while watching the displays.
– Stay hydrated and protected: Bring water, sunscreen, and hats to stay comfortable throughout the day.
