We work closely with local GP practices like Warmdene Surgery and Carden Surgery to ensure seamless medical support. Our Care Professionals assist with errands and promote social engagement by helping clients maintain familiar routines. For example, our Care Professional, Tina, supports her client Roger who lives with Parkinson’s. Tina accompanies Roger to the Parkinson’s Coffee Morning at The Sportsman Pub – helping him stay socially connected to an important local support group. On other days, she takes him for gentle walks around Waterhall or on a drive to Hilltop Café for a cup of tea and a chat. These outings, combined with Tina’s expertise in Parkinson’s care, boost Roger’s confidence whilst offering companionship and reassurance.
Westdene’s excellent transport links and local amenities provide an ideal environment for older adults wishing to maintain an active lifestyle. Our services go beyond the basics of care by helping clients engage in the local community. Whether it’s collecting prescriptions from Field Pharmacy on Eldred Avenue or assisting with trips to local shops, our Care Professionals ensure life remains as convenient and enjoyable as possible. Familiarity and routine are vital, especially for clients living with dementia and our approach, focusing on continuity of care, enables clients to build lasting relationships with their Care Professionals, creating a sense of trust and reassurance.

At Home Instead, we believe that staying socially connected is key to wellbeing. In Westdene, we lead several community initiatives, including chair-based exercise classes and social events. Our Love to Move and Time to Chat sessions, held in partnership with the British Gymnastics Foundation, provide an opportunity for older adults to enjoy gentle exercise and conversation at Tower House each week on London Road. Additionally, we host Tea and Something Lovely events at Bishop Hannington Church Centre in Hove, where attendees can enjoy entertainment, tea, and cake in a dementia-friendly setting. We regularly publish our ‘What’s on Where’ guides, which list local events and resources aimed at helping older adults live well.
