As the holidays approach, we’ve put together a list of five festive outings in the coming winter months for older adults in and around Bristol East. Whether you’re looking for a cosy film screening, a traditional carol service, or a festive day out, we hope these ideas will get you thinking about enjoying the season together.
1. Christmas Carol Service at Keynsham Parish Church
Date: Sunday, 22nd December 2024, at 6:00 pm

For a traditional festive experience just before Christmas, head to Keynsham Parish Church. Their beautiful carol service will feature well-loved hymns and readings in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
2. Film Thursdays at Unity Oldland Methodist Church
Dates: Next screenings include La La Land (28th November) and The Notebook (30th January)

3. Bristol Christmas Market
Dates: 1st November to 23rd December 2024

If you like a little retail therapy, then enjoy the festive spirit at Bristol’s Christmas Market. This year there will be over 35 stalls featuring handmade gifts, seasonal treats, and warming drinks like mulled wine or hot chocolate. Located in the city centre, this market is wheelchair-accessible and offers convenient parking, making it a great option for older adults who enjoy a bit of shopping and a bustling atmosphere.
4. Christmas at Dyrham Park
Dates: Throughout December 2024
Location: Dyrham Park, Dyrham, SN14 8HY
Take a short drive to the National Trust’s Dyrham Park for a festive experience. Enjoy beautifully decorated historic rooms, seasonal displays, and a wintery
walk in the expansive gardens. Bookable workshops and activities. Parking and accessibility facilities are available.
5. Carols by Candlelight at St George’s Bristol
Date: Monday, 9th December 2024
Location: St George’s Bristol, Great George Street, Bristol, BS1 5RR
Enjoy the magical atmosphere of a candlelit carol service. With traditional hymns and festive readings, the event is perfect for those who enjoy music and quiet reflection during the holiday season. The venue is accessible.
