Discover how personalised care at home in Bristol and in the community can help clients live well with dementia and even challenge expectations.
At Home Instead Bristol North, we are dedicated to providing exceptional dementia care that helps people live well through personalised, person-centred support.
We understand that receiving a dementia diagnosis can be overwhelming, but it also presents an opportunity to seek early support. Taking proactive steps allows individuals and families to plan for the future and access the right resources, which can greatly improve quality of life.
At Home Instead Bristol North, we encourage families to reach out for guidance and support early on. Having experienced professionals in your corner can make all the difference.

An inspiring example of how we support our clients’ independence is J, who lives with dementia. Twice a week, J volunteers at a local charity shop in north Bristol. This meaningful activity not only gives her a renewed sense of purpose but also keeps her engaged with the local community.
Through thoughtful consultation, we have helped J continue this important part of her life, as giving back to the community has always been one of her values. Volunteering allows J to maintain her emotional wellbeing, stay active, and challenge what people might typically expect from those living with dementia. By supporting her in these ways, we help J live well with dementia and maintain a part of her life that means so much to her.
We work closely with local dementia-friendly organisations to create inclusive environments that are accessible and supportive. For instance, we co-host dementia-friendly film events, where clients and their families can enjoy a relaxed and understanding atmosphere while watching a favourite film together. These events bring a sense of connection and community, enhancing the quality of life for those living with dementia and their families.
Recently, we also hosted the virtual dementia experience bus, an innovative educational initiative that travels across the UK. This immersive experience provided our Care Professionals, family caregivers and community members with a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by people living with dementia. It is just one of the ways we’re reinforcing our commitment to delivering empathetic care.
“Only 20% of the people living with dementia considered that their condition was a barrier to using outdoor spaces, whereas 83% of carers believed that dementia limited the person’s ability.” UK Government report
We believe that time spent outdoors and in community spaces can boost everyone’s mental and physical wellbeing. One favourite location among our clients is The Ardagh at Horfield Common, which boasts a cosy cafe and a vibrant community atmosphere. Many clients enjoy visiting with the support of their Care Professional for a drink and watching the daily activities, from children playing to dog walkers passing by—all within a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Our approach to dementia care is built on empathy, expertise, and community engagement. Each client has different needs, and we take the time to understand those needs through individual consultations.
All of our Care Professionals receive award-winning dementia training, which equips them with the skills and knowledge to support our clients with compassion and dignity.
