We’re excited to share our summer programme for older adults over the coming months. At Home Instead Bristol North we’re not just focused on care at home; we’re also invested in building social and informative activities that can cultivate connections across our local community. Here’s some dates for your diary!
This summer sees the continuation of our well-loved Senior Film Clubs taking place in Downend and Henleaze, in the North of Bristol. These film clubs offer relaxed, enjoyable afternoons of entertaining films, followed by tea, cake and plenty of time for friendly conversation. Refreshments £4.00. Everyone is welcome and both venues have good accessibility.
When: Third Monday of the month
Where: Christchurch Hall, 57 North Street BS16 5SG
When: Fourth Monday of the month
Where: St Peter’s Church Hall, The Drive BS9 4LD
In June, we’ll be screening ‘The Great Escaper (12),’ featuring Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson. This film is a true story and the tale of Bernard Jordan, a pensioner who left his care home in Sussex to join the D-Day landing’s 70th-anniversary event in France.
Our July movie will be ‘The Darjeeling Limited (15),’ a film about brotherhood, bonding, and self-discovery set against the captivating backdrop of an Indian train journey.
Apart from the film clubs, we also host a regular cosy, free Coffee Afternoon from 2pm to 3.30pm on the last Wednesday of the month. Named ‘Welcome Wednesday,’ it’s held at The Beehive, Wellington Hill West, Bristol BS9 4QY. The afternoon offers a chance to interact with new people, have fun and get updated about what’s happening in the Bristol North area. We’d love to see you there.
One of the key events we’re looking forward to is the Later Life Summer Fair on Friday, 19th July at Newman Hall, 28 Grange Court Road, Bristol, BS9 4DR.
Hosted by Home Instead Bristol North, Bristol Dementia Action Alliance (BDAA) and Harold Stephens Financial Planning, and building on last year’s success, there’s plenty in store. From taster exercise sessions, craft and homemade produce stalls, to helpful information from local support groups, we’re aiming for a wonderful and bigger turnout this year.
In our continued commitment to support those living with dementia, on Wednesday 28th August, we’re hosting the Virtual Dementia Bus at St Peter’s Church Car Park.
This immersive experience offers a unique glimpse into the challenges faced by those living with dementia, and is a learning opportunity for everyone and for carers and caregivers to build awareness, understanding and to ask questions. More details will be shared soon.
