Offering Love to Move seated exercise classes in partnership with Bromley Healthcare and local PCN groups.
Home Instead Bromley, Chislehurst and Orpington are offering free Love to Move seated exercise classes to elderly people and those living with dementia in the borough of Bromley, as well as a series of home care related information sessions focusing on improving the lives of local elderly people.
The Love to Move programme was founded by the British Gymnastics Foundation to get older people moving and functioning better with particular emphasis on cognitive function. The programme achieves this by integrating the use of gymnastic foundation skills, cognitive stimulation therapy and social interaction activities.
Gill Pratt, who has worked for the CQC outstanding home care provider Home Instead Bromley, Chislehurst & Orpington for the past 8 years, has been trained by the British Gymnastics Society to deliver Love to Move sessions. She said “I feel that my life experiences have helped me to understand the emotions and difficulties of older people in the community who may be living with dementia, and to deliver a programme that is physically and mentally making positive changes is a real joy!”
The atmosphere at the most recent session at Orpington Wellbeing Café was warm and friendly as Gill led the group through a series of seated exercises, all set to music. Gill had everyone clapping and moving and even singing along to their favourite songs.
Over the past few months, we have added additional partnerships with Five Elms PCN on the last Friday of each month and Beckenham PCN at their monthly Wellbeing Café, on the last Tuesday of each month
Joanne Messenger, Senior Care Coordinator from Orpington PCN recently said
“Our Café users love attending the Love to Move group with Gill at the Wellbeing Café.
The class is tailored to suit the attendees at each café and the users tell me they feel energised afterwards and why can’t we offer it fortnightly instead of 4 weekly!
It brings together the service users, some of whom have no other exercise, and strengthens relationships as well as their bodies and minds.
Gill works well with all our Café users and is a great asset to the Café.
Thank you so much for running this activity for us.”
