Celebrating Our Care Pro of the Year Finalists - Meet Laura

We’re excited to introduce you to Laura, Care Professional from Home Instead Bedford, one of our amazing finalists for Care Professional of the Year.

Before Laura joined Home Instead, she worked in housing solutions for the local council, helping people find homes when they needed them most. It was a job she loved as it allowed her to be there for vulnerable people.

Laura needed a role that offered her more flexibility so she could look after her children. That’s when she found Home Instead. It was the perfect balance, allowing her to care for others while still being there for her own family.

Laura’s client, John, faced a difficult journey. After a fall in hospital left him paralysed, he struggled with anxiety and depression. During a hospital visit, Laura noticed that John has been prescribed a sedative she didn’t recognise, which was causing John to be quieter than usual and his speech was slurred. After doing her research and working with the hospital, the sedative was discontinued and John’s condition started to improve.

When John returned to his care home, Laura designed a personalised mural for his bedroom wall, turning his space into a place of comfort and calm. John became happier, more relaxed and even started engaging with others again.

But Laura doesn’t just stop at caring for her clients, she’s passionate about inspiring others to join the care sector. She visits local schools to share her story and show young people just how rewarding a career in care can be.

Laura’s creativity, kindness and determination are what make her so special, and we couldn’t be prouder to have her as one of our finalists.
