What is laundry and cleaning support?

Laundry and cleaning support helps older adults manage housekeeping and chores when mobility or health issues make this challenging. Weekly assistance can take recurring tasks off your plate, reduce stress, and ensure your favourite clothes are always ready to wear, giving you more time to spend with loved ones and take part in enjoyable pastimes. Our Care Professionals endeavour to do things just the way you like. Laundry and cleaning support might involve tasks like:

  • Changing bedding and other linens
  • Hand washing delicates
  • Separating colours
  • Drying clothes on the line or in a tumble dryer
  • Ironing so you always have tidy clothing choices
  • Folding or hanging all laundry in its rightful place
  • Sending off items for dry cleaning (if needed)

Why is laundry and cleaning support helpful for older adults?

Research has identified the importance of clothing in older adults’ identities; having freshly laundered clothes to wear can uplift their mood and encourage activity and socialising. As mobility and health issues impact an older person’s abilities over time, managing the cycle of weekly chores and home maintenance can become more challenging, causing an ongoing source of stress which can lead to symptoms like digestive issues, sleep disturbances and social withdrawal. The cause of stress–including laundry build-up–can often be addressed with regular laundry and cleaning support from a Care Professional. Through this service, older people can have a much-needed rest from chores while enjoying companionship and maintaining their independence.
