Living better with home care

Read our new whitepaper on living better with home care

This whitepaper explores the crucial role home care plays in improving the well-being of individuals, particularly the elderly and those with long-term health conditions. Focusing on three key areas, companionship, assistance with housekeeping, and sitting services—this paper highlights how tailored home care solutions contribute to maintaining independence and enhancing quality of life. Companionship offers emotional support and combats loneliness, fostering mental and emotional well-being. Help with housekeeping ensures a safe, clean, and comfortable living environment, reducing the physical burden on individuals. Sitting services provide respite for family carers, allowing them peace of mind while ensuring those needing care person in care remain comfortable and safe. Together, these services not only improve daily living but also promote dignity and independence, key factors in living better at home.

I have worked with Home Instead since July 2016 as a member of the Quality Team, taking the role of Head of Quality & Standards in 2020.

Before joining Home Instead, I built a comprehensive career in the social care sector, beginning in 1991 as a frontline care worker and advancing to senior leadership roles across both private and voluntary sector businesses.

Throughout my career, I have supported diverse care groups in a variety of settings, including community, residential, nursing, and secure environments. My experience spans working with older adults, including those living with dementia; individuals with physical disabilities and complex, long-term health needs; people with learning disabilities, including autism; individuals with enduring mental health challenges; individuals with current or past substance use and those with forensic backgrounds.

In 2002, I qualified as a social worker and have since maintained my professional registration with Social Work England.
