Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a lifelong disease, usually diagnosed in young adults. It affects the brain and spinal cord causing a variety of symptoms which may impact on a person’s vision, mobility, sensation and thought processing to name but a few. Symptoms can be mild or at times cause significant disability.
MS home care is there to support you in any way you need. From assistance with daily tasks such as household cleaning, laundry, personal care, communication, medication administration, meal preparation or assistance with mobility and getting out into the community, to more specific support around a complex health need such as a catheter, gastrostomy or long standing pressure sores. We can even support with any rehabilitation programme or palliative stage.
Our Care Professionals are fully trained in your specialist care needs to support you in the best way, often relieving pressure on family caregivers. Evidence suggests effective support helps reduce the number of possible complications and the need for hospital admissions. Care is carried out when you need it, not when it suits others.
Having health care with Home Instead allows you to maintain your independence, routine, and lifestyle so you can live your best life at home. Home Instead work with you to match your Care Professional to your interests and hobbies so you can build a trusting relationship with them. Home Instead work with you and your clinical team to ensure the best care is delivered to the highest standard ensuring a fully bespoke and tailored care plan is provided.

Multiple Sclerosis can develop at any age but is most often diagnosed between the ages of 20-40. Regardless of when you are diagnosed it is a lifelong neurological condition with varying experiences for many people. It’s possible for people impacted by MS to carry on with school or work after a diagnosis, though they may need additional care at home.
At present there is no cure for Multiple Sclerosis, so an early diagnosis and treatment is beneficial as it can provide the best chance to slow MS progression. Treatment often focuses on reducing inflammation and stopping some damage from occurring, making it easier to deal with symptoms at a later stage. Additional disease modifying treatment can also help speed up the recovery time from MS attacks.
It can be a worrying time for families when their loved one has been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. The idea of having to enter a care home or nursing home can be upsetting at any age, especially with the younger age range of diagnoses. Home Instead offers assistance within the comfort of your own home, allowing you to carry on living your life as normal.
While the disease can impact your daily life, with the right treatment and support you can enjoy a long and satisfying life. The majority of people with MS are still able to walk, and keeping as active as possible, especially with aerobic exercises, is hugely beneficial to continuing your life as normal.
