What is visiting care?

Visiting care means an experienced Care Professional will check in on an older person in their own home to provide care, medical assistance, home support, or anything else they need to remain independent. This tailored support might combine services such as:

Visiting care can be customised to work for you, whether that means someone checking in for an hour a week, or a specialist Care Professional visiting several times a day to help. With visiting care, you can rest assured that an experienced caregiver is never far away.

How does visiting care benefit older adults?

Visiting care can be a positive solution to advancing care needs, rather than an older person moving to a care home where they may not receive the same bespoke, one-to-one support. It can also be a great option for short-term care needs, such as for someone recovering from a major operation, injury or illness. Similarly, if you tend to feel lonely at home, need extra help with personal care to minimise your risk of falling, or are in the early stages of a condition like dementia and do not yet need frequent support, visiting care could allow you to continue living in the place you feel most comfortable. This way, you can be safe in the knowledge that someone will pop in regularly, which can have a positive impact on your mental health.

Is visiting care right for you?

We understand there’s no place like home, so if you would like to stay living in the place you feel most comfortable, visiting care can be a great option. Getting started with visiting care can lay the foundations that allow you to gradually increase the amount of care you receive over time as your needs change. Visiting care may be helpful for you if you:

  • Have just gotten out of hospital
  • Find certain tasks more challenging, such as getting washed or cooking
  • Live with a health condition and would feel safer knowing someone will pop in
  • Have mobility issues and need help climbing stairs or getting outside
  • Have regular medication needs that you cannot manage alone
  • Feel lonely living at home and would like company to improve your mental health
