Celebrating Dementia-Friendly Cinema at Everyman Winchester

We’ve helped raise £844.85 this year to support Dementia-Friendly Winchester, an organisation devoted to making life better for those living with dementia!

We are delighted to share the ongoing success of our Dementia-Friendly Morning Matinees at the Everyman Cinema Winchester. This truly special initiative has brought joy and connection to so many in our community. These monthly gatherings have become a cherished event, and thanks to your generous donations, we’ve raised £844.85 this year to support Dementia-Friendly Winchester, an organisation devoted to making life better for those living with dementia. Your kindness and support have made all of this possible, and we are endlessly grateful.

A heartfelt thank you must also go to the Everyman Cinema Winchester, whose dedication and partnership have been invaluable. Their willingness to provide a warm, accommodating space ensures that these mornings are accessible, inclusive, and enjoyable for everyone who attends.

What makes our matinees unique is their focus on being dementia-friendly. Every detail is considered to create a comfortable and supportive environment. The films are specially chosen to appeal to a wide range of tastes, often featuring beloved classics or uplifting favourites that spark nostalgia and joy. The lights remain on at a low level, creating a soft, inviting atmosphere, and the sound is adjusted to be gentle and not overwhelming. This thoughtful approach ensures everyone feels at ease, making it a truly welcoming experience.

Held on the first Wednesday of each month, these screenings are completely free of charge. Doors open at 10:15 AM, giving plenty of time to settle in and catch up with familiar faces over a complimentary cup of tea or coffee and a little popcorn treat. The film begins at 10:45 AM, providing the perfect way to pass the morning, especially on those colder days when a cosy cinema offers the ideal retreat.

More than just a film screening, these mornings have become a wonderful opportunity for socialising and connecting with others in a relaxed, friendly setting. Whether you come along with family, friends, carers, or simply want to enjoy a morning out, the atmosphere is always warm and supportive. It’s a chance to step away from daily routines, share in laughter and memories, and enjoy the comfort of being part of a community.

We’re excited to announce that we have the film schedule planned up until June 2025! With a fantastic selection of movies lined up, there’s plenty to look forward to in the coming months:
