Taking the Leap: How Home Instead Chesterfield Soared for Charity

Discover how Fiona, Steph, and Mike from Home Instead Chesterfield braved a 15,000ft skydive to raise over £1,000 for Home Instead Charities UK.

At Home Instead Chesterfield, we do believe in going above and beyond – sometimes quite literally! This October, members of our team Fiona, Steph, and Mike finally took to the skies in a daring 15,000ft skydive, all in support of Home Instead Charities UK. This unforgettable event not only showed us that they have an adventurous spirit but also helped raise funds for an incredible cause that supports older adults in the UK.

Overcoming challenges to take the leap

The journey to the jump wasn’t without its hurdles. Originally planned for earlier in the year, the skydive faced multiple weather-related cancellations due to high winds. However, persistence paid off, and our brave team finally got their chance to soar, this time over the stunning Lake District.

In true daredevil style, they joined the ranks of some incredible skydiving achievements. Did you know that the world’s oldest skydiver, Dorothy Hoffner, jumped at an astonishing 104 years old a year earlier in October 2023? Her bravery proves that adventure knows no age limit!

Why we took the plunge

Home Instead Charities UK plays a vital role in the lives of older adults across the country. By offering grants to local community groups, the charity funds activities that can enable social connection, and reduce risks of dementia, loneliness, and isolation. Whether it’s a community tea dance or an arts-and-crafts club, all bring a positive difference to the lives of older adults.

With this in mind, our team represented Chesterfield and was inspired to push their limits and support this mission by leaping out of a plane – reaching speeds of up to 120mph!

The big day: A leap of faith

You can see the excitement and perhaps a little fear in the photographs of Fiona, Steph, and Mike as they gear up for their long-awaited skydive! Each jump from 15,000ft was a heart-pounding moment, but the thought of raising funds for such a meaningful cause kept spirits soaring.

Did you know that the first-ever skydive took place in 1797? Frenchman André-Jacques Garnerin made history when he parachuted from a hot air balloon at 3,200 feet. Fast-forward to 2024, and skydiving has become a way to fundraise for great causes, and we’re thrilled to have added our own Home Instead Chesterfield adventure to the history books!
