Dementia Action Week may be over, but its ripple effect continues to inspire and drive our commitment here at Home Instead Dartford & Bexley. The Action Week in May was filled with incredible outcomes that solidified our passion for raising awareness, fostering understanding, and providing exceptional care for those living with dementia.
Inspiring Young Minds and Empowering Caregivers
Our week started with an inspiring dementia session for a Scouts Cubs group in Dartford. Witnessing their enthusiasm and compassion yet again confirmed our belief that it’s never too early to learn about dementia and break down the stigma surrounding this condition. Children might be living with grandparents or be in contact with elderly neighbours. Making them understand some of the symptoms of dementia will help the ones around them to feel safer and understood.
In parallel, we focused on empowering our caregivers through our advanced dementia training, which we offer in addition to the training provided to every employee. We’re proud to announce that another four of our Care Professionals have already achieved the prestigious City & Guilds Assured Dementia Care Certificate, with another five set to join them soon, adding to the many team members already trained. Our goal is to have 100% of our Care Professionals certified by the end of summer, ensuring the highest quality care for our clients.
Expanding Community Engagement and Awareness
We were thrilled to welcome journalist Alex from Kent Online to experience our virtual reality dementia simulation.
Her article about her experience can be read here https://www.kentonline.co.uk/dartford/news/people-feel-horrible-but-they-understand-how-virtual-real-306758/
Stay tuned for updates on our public launch of this powerful tool.
A visit from Jackie and Andy from the Alzheimer’s Society Bexley opened our eyes to the invaluable resources available for those living with dementia in our local community. We look forward to collaborating further with them to make a meaningful impact.
We handed out the very useful ‘My Checklist for possible dementia symptoms’ from the Alzheimer’s Society to visitors, as well as special wristbands and pins and our helpful guide with six scenarios for supporting someone with dementia. All of these materials can be picked up from our office in St Fidelis House, St Fidelis Road, Erith, DA8 1AT at any other time of the year as well.
We wrapped up the week with a successful public dementia awareness session at The Orchard Shopping Centre in Dartford, further expanding our reach and promoting understanding.
