In July 2024, Doncaster proudly unveiled its latest WOW Guide, a comprehensive resource featuring over 200 regular events specifically designed for adults in the region. This guide, a testament to Home Instead’s commitment to community well-being, aims to combat loneliness and reduce social isolation by showcasing a wealth of local activities and events. The WOW Guide is much more than a simple events list; it embodies the ethos of giving back to the community. Compiled with over 200 events happening throughout Doncaster, the guide ensures that there’s something for everyone, every day of the week. From social gatherings and interest groups to fitness classes and educational workshops, the guide is a powerful tool in connecting individuals to their community.
“We found that across Doncaster, there are many great events and activities happening, but not enough people are aware of them,” a spokesperson for the WOW Guide team said. “Our goal with the WOW Guide is to bridge that gap, making it easy for residents to discover opportunities to connect, engage, and enjoy their local area.”
The WOW Guide was created in collaboration with Age UK and Alzheimer’s Society, ensuring a wide range of support and resources for those in need. Within the guide, readers will find valuable information on services such as Mindset, the Doncaster Memory and Dementia Outreach Service, and Keep in Mind, which provides dementia support services. These collaborations highlight the guide’s dedication to addressing the specific needs of the community, particularly for those affected by memory loss and dementia.
Among the highlights of the WOW Guide are the monthly Friendship Lunches and the Sporting Friendship Group, both organised by the Home Instead team behind the guide. These events, like many others featured in the publication, are designed to foster connections and provide regular opportunities for social interaction.
The WOW Guide’s impact extends beyond just listing events—it represents a concerted effort to address the challenges of loneliness and social isolation that many adults face. By offering a wide array of accessible, enjoyable, and regular activities, the guide plays a crucial role in enhancing the social fabric of Doncaster.
The WOW Guide is set to be updated annually to ensure it remains a reliable resource for the community. The team is committed to maintaining the guide’s relevance by removing disbanded events and adding new activities as they arise. This dedication to continuous improvement means the WOW Guide will always provide the most up-to-date information for Doncaster residents.
For those interested in accessing the WOW Guide, it is available online and in physical format. Paper copies can be picked up at the office, and you access the online version of the WOW Guide.
