Remembrance Day 2024 in Dudley

Discover how Home Instead Dudley commemorates Remembrance Day with community support, memorial events, and the two-minute silence.

As Remembrance Day and Remembrance Sunday approach, Home Instead Dudley is preparing to honour the bravery and sacrifices of those who served in our local community. Together, we aim to pay tribute to the courage of past generations and reflect on the freedoms and peace we enjoy today. For our home care clients, we’ll also be offering support to recognise the two-minute silence on November 11th, if they wish to observe it.

Two-minute silence

On November 11th, our local office in Dudley will observe the traditional two-minute silence at 11 am, pausing to honour the dedication and courage of those who fought for our freedom. This moment of silence gives us all a chance to reflect on the sacrifices made by veterans and those who continue to serve.

Dudley and Sandwell Remember

We are keen to represent Home Instead Dudley at Dudley’s Remembrance Sunday parade. The parade will commence from Top Church, Dudley, at 10:15 am, moving through Dudley town centre, past landmarks like the Council House, and concluding at the Cenotaph on Ednam Road. Here, a full Service of Remembrance, led by Reverend James Treasure, will begin at 10:45 am, including a wreath-laying ceremony and two-minute silence. We are arranging for our staff to lay a wreath on behalf of Home Instead Dudley, standing alongside veterans, families, and the community to honour their legacy.

For those seeking to pay respects in Sandwell, on Sunday, 10 November 2024, people from all faiths, cultures, and backgrounds will unite at Remembrance events across Sandwell, organised by the Royal British Legion and local community groups with support from Sandwell Council. There will be seven parades in Sandwell’s six towns, and all are welcome to attend. The parades will commence at 10:30 am, followed by services and a two-minute silence by war memorials at 11 am.

Rowley Regis – Powke Lane Cemetery

Smethwick – Smethwick Council House

Tipton – Victoria Park

Wednesbury – Memorial Gardens

West Bromwich – Dartmouth Park

These parades offer additional opportunities to honour veterans, reflecting the community’s unity and respect for those who served.

Connecting with Veterans at The Priory Pavilion

As part of our ongoing support for veterans, we’re proud to work closely with a local community group at The Priory Pavilion in Priory Park, Dudley. Every Wednesday from 9 am to 12 noon, veterans gather here for a morning of tea, coffee, and camaraderie. This gathering offers a warm environment where veterans can connect, share experiences, and enjoy a sense of community.

Our team at Home Instead Dudley is honoured to participate in these sessions, where we can listen to the stories of veterans and reflect on their service. These conversations bring home the true meaning of Remembrance Day and enrich our understanding of the sacrifices made by our veterans.

Keeping updated on our local activities and community involvement

We’ll be sharing details about local events for Remembrance on our Facebook page, Instagram and our client newsletters, encouraging everyone who wishes to participate to join us in this national day of reflection and gratitude. By raising awareness, we hope to bring people together in shared remembrance.
