Nutrition tips with Home Instead Croydon and Dulwich to enhance your well-being all year round. <br />
Here at Home Instead Epping Forest, we’re all about the stories that stick, and Vera’s is one we’re not about to forget. After a solid decade under our wing, we took some time to reflect on our shared time together with one of the clients we’ve cared for the longest.
Over the years, Vera’s laughter and stories have brightened many of our days, and as she embarks on a new phase in her care, we take a moment to celebrate her and the fantastic Care Professionals who she has connected with over the last 10 years. In particular, our wonderful Care Professional, Jean – who has been there with Vera from the start and has formed a close bond and friendship with her.
“One of a kind. Vera has been a huge part of my career with Home Instead. I had the privilege and honour of being her carer for over 10 years which I am very proud of.”
– Jean, Care Professional
Vera, a proud East Ender, often shared captivating stories of her youth with her Care Professionals, reminiscing about her vibrant life back then. Her passion for ballroom dancing played a fateful role in her life when she met her future husband, Douglas, at a dance in Ilford. The couple cherished 57 years together until Douglas’s passing in 2014, after which Vera continued to live in their family home in Loughton.
Over the years, our care team has had the pleasure of accompanying Vera on numerous outings, from her regular visits to the hairdresser to getting her nails done in her favourite pale pink shade, which she says complemented everything. These outings have also included enjoyable trips for coffee and lunches and Vera always tried her best to attend our Christmas party.
Vera has praised Home Instead for their compassionate care over the last 10 years:
“Over the past decade I have relied on Home Instead to care for my advancing needs. They have never let me down and met every challenge in a prompt and professional way with kindness and understanding. I consider myself very lucky to have been supported so well by such a lovely team of people, enabling me to live happily and safely in my own home.”
– Vera, Client.
Marking the occasion, our Care Professionals attended a celebratory lunch at the Owl Pub, High Beach. The event was organised by Mark, a friend of Vera who has been involved in her care for many years, to reminisce over the wonderful years Vera has spent with us. The lunch was not only a token of appreciation but also a recognition of the positive impact of compassion and genuine connections in our clients’ lives.
“It was indeed a huge pleasure to celebrate with so many of the team that delivered such a successful program of care, adapting to Vera’s changing needs as her condition progressed over more than a decade. I feel very privileged to have worked with such an excellent organisation and watch the company go from strength to strength. I could not have asked for more support from everyone involved.”
– Mark, Friend of Vera
Everyone in attendance had a lovely time enjoying good food and fantastic company.
“The afternoon was full of reminiscing, sharing our memories and conversations over the years. One thing in particular being the way Vera always wanted her Care Professional to join in and sing with her despite most of us not having particularly good voices. Vera loved singing in this way which brought back many happy memories of her father going off to work to drive a bus and her mother who was a cleaner cycling to individual houses. This made her happy and looking forward to our visits. Mark told us of how Vera looked forward to every Home Instead visit and felt we were part of her family.”
– Care Pro, Cristina B.
