At Home Instead Epping Forest, we believe that old age is not a period to slow down, but an opportunity to embrace life fully and create lasting memories.
To explore these attitudes, Home Instead recently surveyed 1,000 individuals across different age groups, resulting in The New Ageing Index. This report challenges common misconceptions about ageing and offers fresh insights into how people truly view later life and the social care system.
One of the most notable findings is that 89% of people aged over 75 recognise the importance of staying active, highlighting that the desire to live a full and engaging life doesn’t diminish with age. In fact, 67% of this age group are optimistic that both lifespan and health span will significantly improve over the next decade. Furthermore, 76% of those who care for an older loved one endorse diet and exercise as essential to staying youthful.
At Home Instead Epping Forest, we are committed to helping our clients lead vibrant and fulfilling lives. We recognise that staying active is crucial for both physical and mental well-being, which is why we encourage our clients to participate in local clubs and events. Whether they need transportation or companionship, our Care Professionals are always ready to offer support.
A popular spot among our clients is the Bantham and Ongar Bowls Club, where several attend soft mat bowling sessions every Tuesday morning. For just £2 per session, participants enjoy more than just bowling – they experience community, friendship, and a chance to stay engaged and connected.
One of our clients, David, is a perfect example of the benefits of staying active. When David first attended the Bantham and Ongar Bowls Club, he had never bowled before. However, with a little encouragement and some instruction, David was soon hitting the jack multiple times. Now, five years on, he’s become a real champion, earning praise from his fellow players. The social interaction and physical activity have significantly improved David’s well-being, boosting his confidence and helping him make new friends.
Another couple, Betty and George, also attend the bowling sessions regularly. Betty shared with us how much they look forward to these outings, saying: “I don’t know what we would do if we couldn’t attend Bowls and other events. We so look forward to getting out; it gives us a reason to get up in the morning.” For them, these sessions are more than just a pastime – they’re a vital part of their routine, providing both physical activity and emotional fulfilment.
At Home Instead Epping Forest, our mission is to help our clients live the active, fulfilling lives they desire.
