At Home Instead Epping Forest, we are dedicated to offering effective, compassionate dementia care that allows your loved ones to thrive at home.
We understand that learning to live with dementia can be challenging and overwhelming, but we are dedicated to enhancing the health and wellbeing of those living with dementia and their families.
At Home Instead, we offer extensive dementia training, including a City & Guilds accredited course, and we specialise in dementia care, supporting older people to live comfortably and safely in their own homes. We see firsthand the challenges that many families face, and we are keen to boost the support available to those in the community. With the number of people living with dementia expected to rise significantly in the coming years, it is imperative that we create environments that are both inclusive and supportive.
Our unique program for Care Professionals, developed by leading experts in ageing and dementia care, ensures the highest quality of support for your loved ones. This relationship-centred approach delivers personalised care that enables individuals to live happily at home, providing families with a much-needed break from caregiving. It empowers older adults to live independently whilst maintaining their health and wellbeing, and this comprehensive training ensures individuals remain safe and calm, build confidence, eat nutritious meals, and engage in social and mind-stimulating activities.
To gain insight, we spoke with Carol Santos, one of our dedicated care professionals, about her personal experience with dementia training and what it’s like to work for Home Instead.
Carol shares: “My initial training with Home Instead Epping Forest was not only clearly demonstrated but also covered a vast amount of in-depth information on the different forms of dementia, their range of symptoms, and how each individual’s dementia is unique. The training program I received provided me with an amazing insight into what to expect, and with the support and ongoing training, I have felt confident and able to handle each call I make.”
“My enthusiasm was running high when I visited my very first client, a lady called Mary who was 100 years old and an absolute pleasure to visit. Mary needed full care covering all aspects included in my training, but I felt confident and very capable. We ended up forming a lovely bond with both of us looking forward to my visits.”
“As care professionals, we are matched with our clients based on similar interests, hobbies, and backgrounds, and I find I always have things in common we can chat about. I am able to encourage clients to continue doing the things they have always enjoyed and I help to make it possible.”
Carol’s dedication to her clients is evident in her story about Andrew, one of the individuals she supports. Carol explains: “A particular client comes to mind who I have been supporting for some time and who has been struggling to socialise and cope with life on a daily basis. Upon meeting Andrew, it was clearly apparent that we both shared an interest in art and music. Over time, I encouraged Andrew to colour and paint from ready-made pictures, which led to him creating his own drawings and paintings. He proudly displays these in his home and often brings them to groups to show. Andrew has also found the confidence to attend Home Instead’s events and other groups we support. On some occasions, he stands up to sing his favourite song ‘We’ll Never Walk Alone’ and loves to join in and dance. This has been an amazing achievement for Andrew, who has significantly improved his wellbeing and given me a great deal of satisfaction.”
Carol continues: “One of my first experiences as a care professional with Home Instead was with a lovely lady who required ‘End of Life Care’. The training was sensitive, supportive, and thorough, and I would like to think that I and the team were a great source of comfort. Even the support afterward was amazing, recognising the whole emotional experience.”
“I had no care experience when I applied for this job, but from the day I joined the team at Home Instead two years ago until now, I can honestly say I look forward to every day knowing that I am making a difference.”
