"I treat every client as if they were my own grandparents, supporting them with the best quality care, making them feel safe and supported and being a friendly face."
Sarah Duck, a Care Professional and Audit Support with years of experience working in care, came to us in November 2023. Sarah began her care journey at a care home aged just 12 years old, to earn some pocket money after school. This early start in care laid the foundation for a lifelong career dedicated to helping others.
Over the years, Sarah has worn many hats. After she gave birth to her son, she became a stay-at-home mum before going on to become a foster carer, helping support children in need. Her return to care was deeply inspired by her grandparents, who mean the world to her. She loves nothing more than being able to support them.
“I treat every client as if they were my own grandparents, supporting them with the best quality care, making them feel safe and supported and being a friendly face they can trust. It’s so important that everyone we care for is treated with the utmost dignity and respect”.
Having just turned 40, Sarah feels settled and confident in her role. With a keen interest in professional development, Sarah is currently working towards her level 3 Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) in Adult Social Care. Once she has completed this, she has her sights set on further progression, hoping to complete her level 5 RQF next.
“There’s so much opportunity for progression here. I feel like I’m on the right path with a lot of room to grow within both the care and office roles.”
Sarah has a unique dual role of a Care Professional and an Audit Support, meaning she goes out to support clients alongside working in the office, supporting the team with quality assurance and auditing. After working as a Care Professional for two months, Rachael, one of our Training and Support Managers, suggested that she applied for the dual role. Since then she has been able to help the office staff assist with supervision, auditing and taking on more responsibilities within the company.
“I enjoy being able to contribute to both areas, it’s nice to be a part of the process and know that I’m making a difference on multiple levels.”
When it comes to workplace support, Sarah is quick to express her appreciation for her colleagues. “I feel really supported here. Everyone’s been great from providing feedback to helping me grow in my role.” Home Instead’s commitment to training and development has been crucial for Sarah’s professional growth.
Sarah’s journey in the Care Industry is one that has been defined by dedication, passion and a deep-seated commitment to treating everyone with the respect they deserve.
