On days with even a light wind, you can watch kite surfers on the beach at Hill Head. Additionally, most summer days also bring the iconic WW2 Spitfire aeroplane into view. Watching this historic plane take to the skies is a thrilling sight as it takes off from Daedalus Airfield with lucky passengers on board, to fly over the Solent.

A great takeaway option in Lee-on-the-Solent is the Lee Ice Cream and Waffle Shop on Marine Parade East. Open from midday (11 am on weekends), this shop serves delicious ice cream perfect for a hot day. Grab a cone and relax on one of the seafront benches opposite, enjoying the scenic views of the Solent and the Isle of Wight.

On summer days, an ice cream van is usually to be found at Titchfield Haven. This nationally renowned wetland nature reserve, with its rich habitat of rivers, marshlands, and scrapes, is excellent for birdwatching and attracts many visitors each year hoping to spot a rare species. So what about taking shelter in one of the seven easy-to-access viewing hides, bring some binoculars and see how many bird species you can identify.
a. 100 Acre Wood, Wickham: A short drive will take you to 100 Acre Wood in Wickham, an excellent spot for a quiet walk. This area offers a circular walk through the woods and open terrain, providing options for short or long walks.
b. Forest of Bere woodland walk: Located just north of Fareham, it offers a mix of woodland, open space, heathland, farmland, and downland. Together with the remaining oak and modern conifer plantations, there are areas of retained scrub and coppice, streams, ponds and an extensive network of rides and paths. The walking route here performs a simple loop around the mixed woodland, with plenty of wildlife to enjoy along the way.
c. Mitchelland Circular Walk: Near Southwick, just north of Fareham, this stunning trail winds through woodlands and fields around Southwick. It’s also a great walk in spring when the bluebells are in bloom. You’ll find a pub near the trailhead, perfect for ending your hike with a refreshing drink.

Fareham Shopping Centre is in the town centre, it’s air-conditioned and offers a wide variety of shops and cafes. Every Monday, Fareham Outdoor Market takes place on West Street, adjacent to the shopping centre. It’s conveniently close to the main bus station, just a hundred yards away.
