Last month, we partnered with Farnham Assist to support older adults and combat isolation. How, you ask? Grab a cuppa, and we'll tell you more about it.
Farnham Assist is a Christian organisation dedicated to supporting older individuals in Farnham who have become isolated from friends, neighbours and their local community.
Since 2002, they have been working to support Farnham’s older population living alone. Their community work includes:
– Hosting a weekend roast dinner
– Occasional “Pie and Pint Lunches”
– And taking seniors on outings.
They also host larger monthly community lunches for older local residents to meet and make new friends. It was this particular outreach that sparked our interest. How could we help to foster more connections for those struggling with age and mobility?
According to local GPs and the NHS, the number of older adults struggling with loneliness and isolation is continuing to rise after the pandemic. At Home Instead, we already provide mobility transport to our Farnham clients and saw this as an opportunity to collaborate with Farnham Assist to increase the impact of their monthly lunches.
“We are delighted to extend our support to Farnham Assist by offering the free use of our wheelchair-enabled company car and a volunteer to transport individuals in need to the monthly lunch event,” said Mahdi Kazemzadeh, Franchise Director for Home Instead Farnham, Farnborough and Fleet.
“This collaboration with Farnham Assist aligns with our vision to combat social isolation and enhance the well-being of ageing adults in our community,” Kazemzadeh added. “We are proud to support their amazing work to make a significant impact in the lives of older individuals locally.”
Working with the Farnham Assist team, we launched our joint initiative on the 15th of August at one of their monthly lunches.
Mahdi and Lauren took the car to Farnham Assist to show attendees around. And what a fantastic turnout. So many senior community members laughing and enjoying each other’s company. It was great to see and great to be a part of.
They were even able to meet esteemed Mayor Brodie Mauluka and show him around our wheel-chair accessible car!
A huge thank you to Rodney Bates, the Manager of Farnham Assist, and his team for hosting Mahdi and Lauren at the launch of our collaboration. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to meet you and your team. It is truly fantastic work that you do, and we are so pleased to be able to help you reach more seniors in our community.
Rodney Bates said, “We are delighted to be partnering with Home Instead to enable the use of their accessible vehicle for our guests. This will enable more older people with specific physical challenges to attend our events and enjoy our good food and good company. I would like to thank Mahdi and Lauren for their support and look forward to working with them in the months ahead.”
