2024 Charity Drive for Parkinson's UK

Every six months, we support a different senior charity. In Q3 and Q4 of 2024, we donated to the leading Parkinson's support charity, Parkinson's UK. Here's how we did that.

Supporting Parkinson's UK in Farnborough, Farnham and Fleet

Every year, we (Home Instead Farnborough, Farnham and Fleet) support charities close to our clients’ and staff’s hearts. For Q3 and Q4 of 2024, it was Parkinson’s UK.

As you may know, Parkinson’s UK is a leading UK charity dedicated to assisting people affected by Parkinson’s disease. While Parkinson’s is not exclusively a senior condition, it is something that is often seen in older adults. And a condition many of our clients live with.

Parkinson’s UK focuses their initiatives on:

  • Research: They primarily fund research aimed at finding a cure for Parkinson’s and developing better treatments.
  • Support: They offer support to people living with Parkinson’s and their families, including a well-staffed helpline, online resources, local support groups, and access to specialist nurses.
  • Advocacy: They also advocate for people with Parkinson’s, working with policymakers and healthcare professionals to ensure better care and support.
  • Awareness: The charity raises awareness of Parkinson’s disease and its impacts, challenging misconceptions and promoting a better understanding.

Their work has helped many of our clients, and we felt it important to give back.

Our Charity Drive for Q3 and Q4 2024

So, how did we raise money for Parkinson’s UK?

We hosted four key events:

  1. A festive jumper tea party where staff and clients donated towards the charity to participate
  2. A sponsored walk around Virginia Water, which you can read about here:Home Instead Sponsored Walk: Stepping Up for Parkinson’s UK
  3. Collecting atThe Aldershot Christmas Cracker Fair
  4. And offering a Christmas Memory Tree where staff, clients, family, and the wider community could buy memory cards (decorations) to leave a message for a loved one (past or present) to be remembered and celebrated during the festive season.
