Welcome to your free guide on planned respite care in Farnborough, Farnham, and Fleet. We'll cover what's on offer and what to expect from providers.
‘Planned’ respite is a service specifically developed for individuals who need short-term cover for situations where they can pre-empt their care requirements. These might be situations like:
– Operations or hospital stays –
– Treatment recovery –
– Carer breaks –
– If your regular care arrangements are temporarily unavailable –
While everyone can receive planned respite care in Farnborough, Farnham and Fleet, we will look at adult respite specifically because that is where we (Home Instead) provide home care. You’ll also read the phrase ‘Mum or Dad’ often because many of our clients are your parents. However, you can book these services for yourself, too!
Typically, respite care of this nature are private services and not covered by social care unless a significant recovery phase is expected (and resources are available). In this case, you should do some provider research.
Because planned respite is often a private service, you aren’t limited to age or categorisation, a common misconception. You can be any age and have any ability to receive help. The aim is to get you back on your feet or cover care where a primary carer may be away.
We believe that high-quality in-home respite care needs to:
By considering this approach, you should never settle for an out-of-the-box care package that ultimately works best (and easier) for your provider. Your respite care is about what you need and how you get back to independent living.
Our planned respite care services are carried out in your home, the best place to a) recover from an illness or surgery and b) where the caree (Mum or Dad, usually) knows best. No change in environment, no need for upheaval, just simple and easy to get along with home care.
Our services are designed to meet a wide range of needs, including services that cover:
Our support can be tapered off at the end of the respite period if needed so that Mum or Dad get the lasting care they need until they are fully back on their feet. So if they rely on you to help them with the weekly shop, we’ll cover that. We won’t take over; our care professional will simply be there to help lift, reach or remember things.
For example, our care pro Ashley went to stay with Patsy to provide respite care after she had a fall and fractured her elbow. Ashley supports with everything from pain management and daily physio exercises to home-cooked meals and plenty of companionship and stimulation.
Remember that we can offer emergency respite caretoo, which is handy should you need it.
We like to start a conversation with you as soon as you know you have an upcoming life event. This allows us time to help you plan your services and match you to a care professional who you will enjoy working with.
During that time, it’s a good idea to chat with Mum or Dad about what they need while they recover. Do they need someone to help around the home or with things like bathing? Would they benefit from companionship care, or do they have more complex needs? All of this information can be useful in helping us tailor a care plan when we meet you both during our home visit.
We can also start to talk about dates where you have them. Of course, we realise things can change, so we are flexible and will work with you to get care in place when you need it.
We are also flexible about how long you need respite, so whether it’s less than six weeks or more, we can help. And we like to take a ‘tapering off’ approach, meaning that assistance gradually reduces where you need it to, or services are swapped for lighter assistance.
Need to book local respite care?
Planned respite care costs with Home Instead Farnborough, Farnham and Fleet are based on the type of services you need (your care plan) and the length of time you need us.
You can use social funding to pay towards the cost of care if you are eligible. Funding often applies to the first six weeks under what the NHS terms ‘reenablement services’. For example, individuals with complex medical needs might qualify for NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC), which can cover short-term respite care. Please be aware that funding can be hard to procure, and social services are often finite.
