Continuing in our partnership with Boots UK, a number of our franchisees were invited to Boots UK’s over-60s rewards events across the country. As part of our ‘care conversations’ initiative, our franchisees and their teams offered Boots colleagues and customers the tools and encouragement to discuss care options with loved ones through their own expertise.
This opportunity came about as a result of our innovative partnership with Boots UK, helping to highlight home care services within local communities, alongside increasing understanding about home care as a choice of care in later life.
Our research has found that despite a third of adults saying they were concerned about their parents’ physical health, a huge percentage (81%) were reluctant to speak to them about their care choices when they get older or need support.
At Home Instead, we know it’s a great idea to discuss care, help at home and future wishes, but these conversations are often put off for various reasons- whether this is because it is uncomfortable, or because people think it is not urgent. All too often, the care conversation is left too late or until a crisis occurs.
In our mission to ‘change the face of ageing’, our network is encouraging people to have the care conversation early on, even when there isn’t a need, helping to establish what kind of support people want when the time comes.
Our franchisees and their caring teams support families through this stage, helping to develop a care plan and make a transition into care as easy as possible.
The events at Boots’ stores gave people the chance to chat with local Home Instead offices about how to spot the signs that their loved ones are struggling, when to introduce care and what our dedicated caregivers do for clients and their families.
As the leading home care franchise, we know how important it is to discuss care with our loved ones, but due to how uncomfortable these conversations can be they are often put off until it is too late. Our own research has found that a third of adults are concerned about their parents’ physical health, yet eighty one percent are reluctant to speak to them about care choices for when they get older or need support.
In our mission to ‘change the face of ageing’, Home Instead is encouraging the nation to have this care conversation earlier, even if there is no current need for support. These conversations help to challenge the stigma around care in later life and ensure that loved ones have a say in the care they want.
These one-day events were a great chance to promote our care conversations campaign to Boots customers and colleagues, giving them encouragement to discuss care options with loved ones. Our local Home Instead offices were on hand to provide expert advice on how to spot signs that their loved ones are struggling, when to introduce care and what our Care Professionals can do for clients and their families.
