Home Instead Charities is hosting Companionship Cafes in Churchdown and Tredworth with the aim of combatting loneliness and social isolation.
Home Instead Charities is host to two new Companionship Cafes in Gloucester, run with the support of volunteers from Home Instead Gloucester and The Forest of Dean and the local community. They provide a welcoming space for older adults to come together for a chat, a cuppa, a slice of cake and activities. The Companionship Cafes are free to attend and anyone in the local community is welcome.
Companionship Cafes are run bi-weekly in Churchdown and Tredworth. They provide a warm and supportive environment, bringing together members of the local community to allow them to make connections, enjoy a drink and share their interests and experiences.
Each Cafe is free to attend and has free refreshments, including tea, coffee, squash and fresh home-baked cakes. There is also entertainment including local choirs and craft activities. Free parking is available and each venue is wheelchair accessible.
Home Instead Charities is funded by fundraisers and donations and all money raised goes towards initiatives such as Companionship Cafes to celebrate and support the wellbeing of older adults. Home Instead Charities strives to create a world in which no one is lonely or isolated in their later years.

Sylvia, who has attended the opening of both Companionship Cafes has said, “I really enjoyed your first two cafes and yes I met five new people today. I look forward to being able to continue to come along.”.
We’ve had attendees of all ages, many who arrived on their own and left having made friendships. One attendee found six new friends while attending their first Companionship Cafe and they all plan to come along together next time.
With continued support from Home Instead and The Forest of Dean and local volunteers, the Companionship Cafes will run every other week to bring people in the local community together. There will be a variety of activities being provided, including arts and crafts, board games, puzzles and light sports such as bowls.
