Have You Ever Wondered if Home Instead Only Looks After the Elderly?

A look at one of our younger clients, Scott.

It’s a common misconception that Home Instead exclusively cares for the elderly. While the majority of our clients are indeed older adults who wish to remain in their own homes, enjoying independence and security in familiar surroundings, we also support younger individuals with specific needs. Our mission is to provide high-quality, personalised care to anyone who requires it, regardless of their age.

Take Scott, for example, one of our younger clients. Scott lives with epilepsy, a condition that affects his daily life and requires regular support to maintain his quality of life and independence. We assist Scott with various activities, including shopping trips, coffee outings, and gym visits. By working closely with his family, we ensure that Scott continues to enjoy the activities that matter most to him.

Scott’s condition prevents him from driving, making our bi-weekly visits essential for his engagement with the community and providing a much-needed break from home. These outings significantly enhance his wellbeing, allowing him to interact socially and stay active. Our small team of Care Professionals has built strong, friendly bonds with Scott, making his visits enjoyable and engaging. They have become more like friends than carers, which is a testament to the personalised approach we take with all our clients.

Recently, Scott participated in the Epilepsy Society’s online challenge, completing 79 squats a day in July to represent the 79 cases of epilepsy diagnosed daily in the UK. This cause is close to his heart, and we are immensely proud of his dedication to raising awareness. Having tried to complete these squats with him, we can attest that it’s no easy feat! In addition to his participation in the Epilepsy Society’s challenge, Scott joined an initiative we ran at Home Instead Guildford and Woking to encourage clients to stay active. We aimed to motivate our clients to walk as many steps as they could manage daily, setting a collective target of 500,000 steps for the month. True to form, Scott exceeded expectations, contributing over 100,000 steps on his own. His remarkable efforts were recognised with donations in his name, showcasing his commitment to staying active and healthy.

Scott’s story is just one example of how Home Instead supports individuals with diverse needs. Our care services are designed to cater to a wide range of requirements, ensuring that everyone, regardless of age or condition, can maintain their independence and enjoy a high quality of life. We understand that each client is unique, and we tailor our care plans to meet their specific needs and preferences.

If you know someone who could benefit from Home Instead’s support, whether they have specialist needs or require regular companionship, we are here to help. Our team is always available to discuss the best options to support their independence and provide much-needed relief for their families. You can learn more about our specialist care
