It’s really important as we age to keep moving and work our muscles so that we can keep our mobility, and therefore our independence, for as long as possible.
We may not be quite up to a Zumba or ‘Legs, Bums and Tums’ at the local gym, but there are a lot of options in our area that will do the job.
As well as the health benefits, there’s no better way to meet like-minded people and expand our social circle!
Our team have rounded up our favourites across Surrey.
Walks (and more!) for wellness….
If you love to walk it’s much more fun, and safer, to go with a friend or a group.
Age UK run regular local walks that vary from 3.5 to 8.5 miles for all abilities and speeds.
There is always someone there to greet you and lead the walk so you don’t need to book; just turn up with appropriate clothing, a bottle of water and a snack, and off you go!
The walks are completely free, although a £2 donation is appreciated to maintain the programme. You can find the walks’ calendar here GO50 Walks Calendar.
“We don’t stop moving because we get old, we get old because we stop moving”
There are a wealth of classes and activities available, not always easily researchable on the internet.
Have a look at local community centre noticeboards and you’ll be surprised at what is out there to suit.
