Home Instead delivers Parkinson's training

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, a global initiative dedicated to raising awareness, sharing resources, and supporting those affected by Parkinson’s disease. In the UK, this month is marked by various events and campaigns, culminating in World Parkinson’s Day on Friday, 11 April 2025 .

Home Instead Harrogate , Ripon and Thirsk support people living with Parkinson’s and has partnered with Parkinson’s UK to enhance the quality of care provided to individuals living with Parkinson’s disease. This collaboration includes the development of a bespoke training programme for Home Instead’s Care Professionals. The training is designed to equip Care Professionals  with the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver tailored care that addresses the complex and unique needs of those with Parkinson’s

A key component of this initiative is the “Train the Trainer” course, part of the Parkinson’s UK Excellence Network. This course enables experienced Home Instead trainers to deliver a comprehensive 3-hour “Parkinson’s Explained” session to their colleagues. The training covers the impact of Parkinson’s, including motor and non-motor symptoms, communication challenges, and cognitive issues. It also provides strategies for evaluating care practices and delivering effective support.

Parkinson’s is a progressive condition that requires tailored, consistent care. Home Instead’s training equips their care team with the skills and empathy needed to enhance quality of life for clients living with Parkinson’s.

Sheena Van Parys co-owner of Home Instead Harrogate, Ripon and Thirsk regularly delivers this training to her team to ensure they have the skills and confidence to support their clients to live well with Parkinson’s.
