Brand New Parkinson’s Café starting on Hayling Island this February

Home Instead Havant are extremely excited and proud to announce that they have teamed up with Parkinson’s UK to form a brand-new Parkinson’s Café on Hayling Island starting in February 2025.

After speaking with our local Parkinson’s UK advisor for the South East, alongside the Parkinson’s UK Area Manager, it was clear to Mark, Director of Home Instead Havant, and Abi, Community Engagement Manager, that more support was needed in the surrounding area for those living with Parkinson’s along with their family care-givers.

Mark was extremely keen to facilitate the new Parkinson’s Café on Hayling Island to offer this type of support for those who could benefit from it and so the team went away to discuss options around how Home Instead Havant could support in facilitating a Parkinson’s Café based on Hayling Island. Part of the process of this was finding a suitable venue to hold a café, Abi and Mark arranged a viewing at the Hayling Island Community Centre to look at their available rooms.

After agreeing that the Community Centre would be the ideal place for the Café with accessible rooms, an onsite café and large enough parking area, they invited Kim and Leigh-Beth from Parkinson’s UK to visit the centre with them where they all agreed this was a great venue.

Iona, Hayling Island Community Centre Manager, was very helpful in the process of setting up, she agreed that the new Parkinson’s community support resource was needed in the area and was pleased that they could be a part of building it.

The first Parkinson’s UK in partnership with Home Instead Havant Café will be on Thursday 6th February, 11am – 12.30pm at Hayling Island Community Centre, Station Road, PO11 0HB. After this, the café will take place every first Thursday of the month.

The café itself will offer a relaxed, supportive environment for those living with Parkinson’s to come along to, enjoy some refreshments, and meet others also living with the condition.

If you, someone that you care for, or somebody you know might benefit from attending the café, please do come along or help us to spread the word.
