World Alzheimer’s Month at Home Instead Havant

Learn how Home Instead Havant marked World Alzheimer's Month with local activities, raising awareness and providing support for those affected by dementia and Alzheimer’s.

This September, our team at Home Instead Havant participated in World Alzheimer’s Month to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. As a home care and live in care provider who provide specialist Alzheimer’s and dementia care and are dedicated to supporting local families, we organised events to bring our team together and to support local residents.

Purple Day at our Hayling Island office

At the end of September, our office embraced a purple theme, the colour widely associated with Alzheimer’s awareness. Our team wore purple, and we decorated the office to show our support.

More than just the visual display, the day was an important reminder to spread awareness and share our experiences supporting clients living with dementia. It gave us an opportunity to reflect on the empathy and shared knowledge that are essential to high-quality care.

All year round, our award-winning dementia care training equips our Care Professionals with the skills needed to provide expert, compassionate care, ensuring our clients can continue living well at home.

A dementia workshop in Emsworth: sharing essential knowledge

A key event in our World Alzheimer’s Month activities was our Dementia Workshop on 26th September at the Emsworth Methodist Church. This workshop was open to everyone and aimed to provide practical advice for families affected by dementia or Alzheimer’s.

Key questions about dementia and Alzheimer’s were answered. We addressed common questions during the session, such as:

What’s the difference between dementia and Alzheimer’s?

Dementia refers to cognitive decline, and Alzheimer’s disease is its most common cause.

What are the early signs of dementia?

Early symptoms can include memory loss, confusion, difficulty with tasks, and mood changes.

How is dementia diagnosed in the UK?

Diagnosis involves memory tests, medical evaluations, brain scans, and referrals to memory clinics if needed. The first step is usually to visit your GP.

What support is available for those living with dementia?

Support options include memory clinics, community groups, and home care services to provide extra support at home, like ours at Home Instead Havant.

How can I support someone with dementia?

Routines, emotional support, and dementia-friendly environments are essential. Seeking professional guidance and local resources can help significantly.

The workshop provided attendees with practical tips, answering questions and giving them the knowledge they could apply in daily life.

Continuing our commitment to dementia care

As we reflect on World Alzheimer’s Month, our commitment to raising awareness and providing support in the local community remains stronger than ever. At Home Instead Havant, we’re dedicated to offering expert dementia care while helping families navigate the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease with compassion and professionalism.
