At Home Instead High Peak, one of our favourite destinations for clients is a local garden or garden centre. These places offer both physical and mental stimulation. They provide a gentle form of exercise for those with mobility, while offering those in wheelchairs a chance to connect with the natural world around them. Moreover, many garden centres boast delightful cafés where we can relax and engage in conversation over a comforting cup of tea or coffee. We’ve curated a selection of delightful options we’ve come across.
There’s something special about a family-run nursery or garden centre, and this is a great example. Notcutts Woodford Park Garden Centre, situated in Woodford is a well-established business boasting beautiful gardens and a lakeside terrace, making for a wonderful day out. It’s open from Mondays to Saturdays, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Sundays from 10:30- 4:30 pm.
The garden centre offers a wide range of garden and home furnishings as well as a delightful gift shop full of thoughtful trinkets. Wheelchair access is available on-site for those who require it, and there is plenty of parking.

And if you love shopping from small businesses, you are in luck because there are a broad range of independent businesses on site too, from coffee shops to crochet clothing and more; there’s something for everyone.
The garden centre is open for visitors seven days a week from 10 am to 4 pm. Please note that there are several other independent businesses on-site that have their opening times, please check on their website or contact them directly for their opening times to avoid disappointment. If you’re concerned about finding a place to park, their site is easily accessible, and they have plenty of parking for customers. It is conveniently located near Bamford station, making it accessible to non-drivers.
Glossop Garden Centre is an independent Garden & Café based in the centre of the market town, Glossop. There is a mix of plants, seeds, garden tools, and equipment. For animal enthusiasts, they carry a range of animal products as well. And, for those in pursuit of the perfect gift for birthdays or any other special occasion, their gift shop presents a treasure trove of options.
The shop is open from 9:30 am to 5 pm on Mondays to Saturdays, and the café is open from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, with hours differing on Saturdays and Sundays for the shop and café. And if you and your older loved one begin to feel peckish, there is the option to treat yourselves to a lovely classic or luxury afternoon tea. If you’re worried about accessing it with a wheelchair user, there is access to the café, shop, and garden centre.
Hartley’s Garden Centre is a delightful, quaint place to shop for British-grown plants, house plants, pond plants, perennials, bedding, trees, as well as evergreen shrubs and all your other garden essentials. If you are looking for some new pots this garden centre has quite the selection, including its very own heritage range.
Located in the rural countryside, it is a beautiful idyllic setting to enjoy a day spent with your older loved one, overlooking the rolling hills of Derbyshire. This garden centre is a small family-run business, and the team is happy to assist with any heavy lifting you may require if you happen to purchase something. The shop and garden centre are open to the public Monday to Saturday and Bank Holidays from 10 am till 4 pm.
Lyme Field Garden Centre, Farm Shop and Tea Room can be found in Broadbottom, Hyde. The Garden Centre is open every day of the week and the shelves are stocked with items for your garden. They have a bunch of seasonal plants, houseplants, roses and bird feed if you love to support your garden’s wildlife.
And if your older loved one loves fresh fruit and veg, this is the place to go. It boasts an on-site Farm Shop brimming with an abundant selection of locally sourced produce.
Additionally, for a delightful respite, there’s a charming tearoom where you and your older loved one can have a soothing cup of tea or coffee following your visit. Ideally, Lyme Field Garden Centre has wheelchair accessibility if needed, providing you with the confidence to visit and enjoy your experience.
