Summer in Hinckley

Five summer spots

We’ve put together a few local spots in and around Hinckley and Nuneaton where you can find refreshment in warm weather. Here are some ideas of places to take a well-earned break in the summer:

1. Cow Shed Cafe, Poplars Farm, Nuneaton

Enjoy cool drinks at the cafe and browse around the Farm Shop, maybe even take some goodies home to enjoy.

2. The Waffle Emporium, Hinckley

Ice cream galore! A central place to take a break and enjoy a cooling treat in Hinckley.

3. Dreamy Cow Farmhouse Ice Cream, Atherstone

A bit further away, for a drive, this a good option to enjoy the view of the fields and the cows, while trying some of their own range of ice creams.

4. Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery

Located within Riversley Park, this free museum with a tea room offers interesting exhibits on local history and art. It’s a great place to stay cool indoors while learning something new. Keep an eye on their website in case of change of opening hours or last minute closure.

5. Costa Coffee (Various Locations)

Costa Coffee is a British chain and a well-loved choice with locations across Hinckley and Nuneaton that offer a range of iced drinks, cool drinks and light snacks. These cafes also provide a comfortable, air-conditioned space for reprieve on a hot day and enough space to relax and enjoy a cool drink. The local branch at The Crescent has recently reopened after a refurbishment.

Tips to Stay Hydrated

Taking breaks, staying cool and hydrated are key to enjoying a safe and pleasant summer. By following these simple steps and referring to NHS guidelines, you can stay hydrated and comfortable during the warmer months.

Stay Hydrated Throughout the Day: Always keep a water bottle with you, whether you’re at home or out and about. Regularly sip water throughout the day to keep your fluid levels up.

Eat Hydrating Foods: Include foods with high water content in your diet. Fruits like watermelon and oranges, and vegetables like cucumbers, are great options to help you stay hydrated.

Dress for the Weather: Choose light, breathable fabrics for your clothing. Wearing a hat can also protect you from the sun’s rays and keep you cooler.

Time Your Outdoor Activities: Plan your outdoor activities for the cooler parts of the day, either early in the morning or later in the evening. Avoid the midday sun, typically between 11am and 3pm, when it can be hottest.

Keep Your Home Cool: Keep your living space cool by closing blinds or curtains during the day to block out the sun. Use fans or air conditioning if available to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and most importantly, stay happy this summer!
