Reflecting on World Alzheimer’s Month 2024

Discover how Home Instead Hinckley supports families affected by dementia year-round, with expert care and community engagement during World Alzheimer’s Month and beyond.

At Home Instead Hinckley, we provide expert care and support to families in Hinckley, Burbage, and Nuneaton who are affected by Alzheimer’s disease. As the leading cause of dementia, Alzheimer’s accounts for 60-80% of cases, contributing to the estimated 900,000 people currently living with dementia in the UK—a number that is expected to rise to over 1 million by 2025, according to Alzheimer’s Research UK and the Alzheimer’s Society.

September holds special meaning for the Alzheimer’s community, as it marks World Alzheimer’s Month – a global campaign to raise awareness, challenge misconceptions, and offer support to those impacted by this challenging condition. At Home Instead Hinckley, we are committed to standing alongside the families of our clients throughout their dementia care journeys, providing compassionate care and understanding. Let’s look at the importance of the month and how we make a positive difference year-round.

World Alzheimer’s Month 2024

World Alzheimer’s Month takes place every September and this year’s campaign, led by the Alzheimer’s Society, has encouraged people to share their stories to raise greater understanding and break down misconceptions about the condition. The theme, “Share your story,” empowers people affected by dementia to bring their personal experiences into the spotlight, offering hope, connection, and support.

Why are personal stories so important? They allow us to see the human side of dementia and to understand its far-reaching effects. By encouraging people to share their journeys on platforms like the Alzheimer’s Society, we create a space where empathy and awareness thrive. Stories help demystify dementia, making it easier to talk about and providing comfort to those who feel isolated.

Supporting families every step of the way

At Home Instead Hinckley, we are committed to providing personalised dementia care that meets the unique needs of each individual. We understand that dementia affects everyone differently, which is why our care plans are tailored to suit not just our clients, but their families too. Our team works closely with families to ensure that care plans evolve as needs change, allowing us to adapt and continue offering the right level of support.

Whether it’s establishing daily routines, offering medication reminders, or engaging in dementia-friendly activities that encourage joy and connection, we aim to create an environment where our clients can feel safe and supported. This personalised approach not only enhances the quality of life for those living with dementia, but also eases the emotional and physical demands placed on family caregivers, providing much-needed peace of mind and support throughout their journey.
