Back to school with Home Instead Ilkeston: A season of new beginnings

Learn how Home Instead Ilkeston engages local students and communities through talks, offering rewarding careers in care with training and growth opportunities this autumn.

As the new academic year kicks off, the sight of school uniforms and bustling classrooms signals a time of renewal. For many, autumn represents a season of fresh starts. At Home Instead Ilkeston and Hucknall, we’re passionate about helping our community thrive and are excited to talk to more people about the rewarding opportunities and fresh starts that a career in home care can offer.

Talking to school leavers and young adults

At the end of the summer, Steve Walters, our Community Relationship Lead, attended the School Leavers & Young Adults Recruitment Event at Cotmanhay Adult Education Centre. There, he talked with young adults starting their employment journey.

“It was a great opportunity to meet young people and share what a career in care can offer,” Steve said. “I wanted to show them how rewarding this work can be—for both the individuals they care for and themselves.”

Steve’s stories about life as a Care Professional resonated with many attendees. His warm, fun and engaging style demystified the role and highlighted the positive impact of care work.

Sarah Ball, the Program Event Manager, noted: “Steve made a great impression on several young people. Our DWP colleagues will be following up with them.”

More events are planned for the new academic year, and we hope will provide opportunities to inspire future Care Professionals.

Making a difference in the community

Home Instead Ilkeston is part of the community, delivering high-quality care at home that transforms the lives of older adults and their families. Our Care Professionals are out and about in the local area, visiting clients in their own homes to deliver high quality care at home, build relationships and provide companionship.

The home care we provide helps people maintain independence while staying connected to the community. Working with local organisations, we aim to build awareness and show how high-quality care benefits clients and strengthens our community.

A new start for school leavers, career changers and more

This autumn, we encourage young people and career-changers to explore home care roles. Whether you’re a school leaver, university student, or seeking a career change, Home Instead Ilkeston offers excellent training and support. We ensure every Care Professional feels confident and valued.

We also offer career pathways that can lead to leadership roles within Home Instead, providing opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Engaging with local colleges and communities

We’re expanding our outreach by offering talks at local colleges and community centres. These talks give students and community members insight into what it’s like to work as a Care Professional and the positive impact they can have. By engaging with young adults particularly, we hope to inspire the next generation of Care Professionals and highlight the vital role home care plays in the community.

A season for new beginnings

Whether you’re exploring future career options or looking for a rewarding and fulfilling role, a career with Home Instead Ilkeston can provide that new beginning. We offer purpose, growth, and the chance to make a difference.
