A chat over a nice cup of tea, whilst getting out and about in your local area, is a good way to stay sociable and happy in older age to maintain health and wellbeing. Why not try out some of our ideas for great places in Lewes, Uckfield, Ringmer, Fletching and Buxted where you can enjoy a cuppa and catch up with older friends or relatives.

Grounded at The Forge

Although known as a ‘Coffee Lounge’, Grounded is a lovely rustic spot for a catch up and a has a great selection of teas! It also services food for breakfast and lunch, with lovely cakes and vegetarian options. A great addition to the local area of Ringmer.

Opens from 8am Monday to Saturday, until 4pm or 8pm on Thursday and Fridays. Closed on Sundays. It’s easy to park, offers outdoor seating and takeaway, and has wheelchair-accessible entrance, seating and toilet.

The Hatch Café

This takeaway café is tucked away at the end of the Southover Grange Gardens, Lewes. Also known as Southover Grange Café, The Hatch serves tea, coffee, cakes, sandwiches and ice cream.

Open from 9.30am to 5pm every day, except Sunday which is 10.30am to 5pm, weather permitting. Set in the beautiful, well maintained gardens, it can be a quiet oasis away from the town. There are toilets available.

The Stable Tea Rooms

The Stable Tea Rooms at Heaven Farm, out near Sheffield Park, is a family-run business serving a range of reasonably priced teas as well as cream teas breakfasts, light lunches and Sunday roasts.

It is open every day, Monday-Sunday, from 10am to 4pm with last food orders at 3pm. There is inside seating which requires booking and plenty of outside seating which does not need to be booked.

Denniker Farm Café

Denniker Farm café in Fletching is newly built, with a modern farmhouse feel and a range of indoor & outdoor seating. Did you know Denniker means ‘ten acres’? As well as a range of teas, the café serves food prepared at the farm, cooked by a local chef, and includes breakfasts, afternoon tea, home baked cakes and savoury snacks.

With disabled access, in the summer there are also outdoor benches and parasols available. It is open Monday-Saturday, 8.30am to 4pm (Last food order 3:00pm).

Oast Farm Café

The Oast Farm Café in Buxted, located on the Wealdway, is a family-run business including the Fruit Farm, Shop and Café. As well as a range of teas, the food menu caters for all dietary requirements including vegan, gluten and dairy free. Cooked to order using the produce sold in the shop, including their own fruit and bread from Flint Owl, the bakery in Glynde

There is outside seating, with blankets for chilly days, a limited number of inside tables and take away. Covid safe procedures are still in place. Open Monday-Saturday, 10am to 4pm.

Spade and Spoon Cafe

The Café at Staverton Nursery in Halland, the Spade and Spoon, serves tea and delicious fresh made snacks and light meals, including both breakfast and lunch options. The menu is seasonal, using fresh ingredients including vegetables and herbs grown in their own kitchen garden.

Open Monday-Saturday, 8am to 4.30pm, it’s a great little cafe and you can also visit the nursery. There is seating inside and out, with outside being covered and surrounded by plants which are also available to buy.
