Partnering for a Dementia-Friendly Future in Angmering

Building a dementia-friendly community in Angmering through partnership, awareness, and a little local fun.

Dementia Friends

Passionate About Dementia

At Home Instead, we’re passionate about creating dementia-friendly communities — places where individuals living with dementia, and those who care for them, feel understood, respected, and supported. That’s why we’re proud to be actively involved in the Arun Dementia Alliance, a collective of local organisations working together to raise awareness and improve the lives of people living with dementia in our area.

The Alliance, hosted by Ayton House Care Home in Angmering, brings together likeminded individuals and services who want to make a difference — and we’re thrilled to be part of the conversation.

But our involvement doesn’t stop there.

Connecting with the Community

Recently, our Marketing and Engagement Coordinator had the pleasure of meeting with Joseph Wisener, the Community Champion at St Margaret’s Church in Angmering. Joseph kindly offered a tour of the church and its beautiful grounds, and the two shared ideas about how we can collaborate to support older adults in our local community — especially those navigating ageing and memory loss.

It was inspiring to hear about the incredible work St Margaret’s already does. From community lunches and wellbeing activities to warm spaces and spiritual support, the church is a true hub for connection and care.

We’re especially excited about their Funday on Fletcher’s Field, happening this year on Saturday 14th June — a joyful, completely free event designed as a gift to the village. There’ll be:

  • 🎠 Bouncy castles, rotating teacups, face-painting, and live magic for children and families
  • 🎶 Live music throughout the day
  • 🧁 A Queen’s Jubilee Bake Off with prizes to be won
  • 💪 A tug of war competition for those up for some friendly fun
  • 🍔 A BBQ and tea tent available for refreshments

It’s a beautiful example of what community spirit looks like — and we’re thrilled to support it however we can.

Become a Dementia Friend

One of the simplest yet most powerful ways to support people living with dementia is by becoming a Dementia Friend. Through a short, interactive session, you’ll gain a better understanding of what it’s like to live with dementia and the small things you can do to make a big difference.

As part of our commitment to raising awareness and promoting inclusivity, we offer free Dementia Friends Information Sessions to local businesses, schools, community groups, and individuals who want to learn more.

If your team, organisation, or network would be interested in hosting a session, we’d love to hear from you. It’s a great way to start meaningful conversations and build a more supportive community for everyone.

You can learn more about the initiative at dementiafriends.org.uk.

We’re looking forward to continuing our collaboration with Joseph and the team at St Margaret’s Church, and finding more ways to support our wonderful village of Angmering and the wider community.
