Earlier this week, we welcomed the Virtual Dementia Experience to Home Instead, to help provide people with a realistic understanding of dementia.
As a part of this we aim to share our understanding of the condition to help others. This includes various forms of educational events and activities.
Earlier this week, we welcomed the Virtual Dementia Experience to our sister office in Prenton, to help provide people with a realistic understanding of what living dementia is really like. Our guests were able to take part in this highly visceral and unique experience, which simulates the condition using scientifically proven technologies.
The event was supported by Steve Thompson MBE, England Rugby legend and World Cup Winner in 2003. Steve was diagnosed with dementia in 2020 and is now committed to helping raise awareness of dementia through his personal experiences. Steve and his wonderful family spent the day with us to support the event.
We were also joined by Cherry Povall JP, Mayor of Wirral, who took an active part in the experience to gain a better understanding of the condition. The event also caught the attention of the media including the Liverpool Echo and the BBC.
There are almost a million people in the UK now diagnosed with dementia, which is an umbrella term for a range of progressive conditions affect the brain.
Doctors often use the word ‘‘dementia’’ to describe common symptoms, which include memory loss, confusion, and problems with speech and understanding.
