Home Instead Care in Mid Cornwall

Why Home Instead Care?

Home Instead care is a premium, relationship led service helping older people enjoy their lives at home. This can be anything from a cup of tea and a chat, to trips out and as needs rise more specialised Dementia care or help with washing and dressing.

With Home Instead there is so much more than the hour of care delivery. We put a great deal of effort into recruiting the right people at the start. Rather than selling a job, we look for people who we think will fit the role, but who will also value it and stay with us so we can invest in training and development.

With Care Solutions, Home Instead properly support people at home with visits of at least an hour and Caregivers who really know and understand their clients needs and wishes

“I simply cannot speak highly enough of every aspect of the Home Instead service in Fowey
Every caregiver gave a fantastic service and made my parents feel safe, comfortable and like friends.
The support team in Par were super efficient, friendly to deal with and helpful at all times.
My whole family has felt like they could trust the care given and also mix in a positive way with caregivers when we were in my parent’s home. This was so important to us.
I can’t thank everyone concerned enough. They all very much went that extra mile on a regular basis.”

Training, Coordination and Care Planning

Training and Development

The extra training and development we do, can be from practical care tasks such as administering eye drops or using a piece of equipment to help with moving and positioning to

Alzheimer’s & Dementia Care At Home | Home Instead or Palliative care and support.

We introduce each Caregiver to the people they are looking after and make extensive use of shadow visits, where they work alongside someone experienced with the particular person. This can be to build skills and confidence or where a care routine was more involved.

Coordination with the Office Care Team

Helping coordinate managing these often small issues is essential for a person to be well supported at home. There is so much more to Home Instead than just task based care and rushing onto the next client.

The office care team in Par Moor, St Austell and Wadebridge help coordinate between the Caregivers, the person we are looking after, their families and other care professionals. Medications may need reordering, or shopping managed or there may be an issue with the property. Care professionals know their clients and can spot changes in wellbeing and report these changes to the office who liaise with other health care professionals. These could be a sign of infections, or potential pressure area risks or a need for more care to be organised.

In the Mid Cornwall office, we schedule and pay for 15 minute gaps (or more if needed) between visits so a caregiver has plenty of time to travel without cutting the visit short or rushing. On the North Coast area around Wadebridge covering places such as St Issey, Trevone, St Merryn and St Kew more time may be needed.

“The St Austell branch of Home Instead have been looking after my mum in Tywardreath since November 2020. They have been incredibly helpful, professional and pro-active. Mum has some memory problems and knowing that someone has been in to see her every day for a chat and to check that she is OK, eating regularly and keeping warm enough has been a great relief. Home Instead were able to take her to her COVID vaccination appointments and have kept us up to speed with any potential issues. I would definitely recommend them.”

Strengths Based Care Planning

We plan the care with the person being looked after and their family. We ask “What does a good day look like? ” rather than just focus on frailties and health needs.

With Home Instead in Mid Cornwall, older people can be looked after, and enjoy their lives at home where they want to be. Our Care Solutions are often much better value than the costs of a residential or nursing home and for many people can bring about a better outcome.

Next Steps

We talk through options on the phone with you and then arrange a care consultation in the home with our Care Manager Claire or one of our Care coordinators. If the person needing help is nervous this can be a chat initially where we reassure and explain what we do. For the full consultation, we build up a holistic picture of the whole person and their wishes and needs. This includes their life so far, daily routine, activities they enjoy and food and drink preferences as well as the health, medical and mobility information needed.
