We’re really pleased to have joined Cornwall Chamber of Commerce this year. It’s a great opportunity for us to spread awareness about the unique, high quality, relationship led care that Home Instead Mid Cornwall provides to people and their families who we can help. Cornwall Chamber run many events and as an active member of Fowey Chamber and St Austell Chamber for many years, we have seen the benefits of being part of locally based groups here in Cornwall.
As with many businesses and organisations, we are also finding recruitment challenging. It will be good to meet with other people to share and learn best practices with this. Social care is in a difficult place and it is good for us to work in it to be aware of the challenges, issues and successes other organisations are facing. Sometimes a solution can be found from speaking with a person working in a completely different area. Even if a solution can’t be found, a break from the daily whirlwind with a chamber breakfast can help clear the mind!
Where possible, we have always bought in services or products such as PPE, IT support, telecoms or stationary locally. These relationships with local suppliers have been built with meeting them face to face. There is a trend by some policy makers to push care provision more and more into a gig economy in an effort to save money. We believe this is a deeply flawed approach and will not deliver the skilled, motivated and well led workforce needed to meet the challenges of an older population.
Our local vision is to Improve and Professionalise the Experience of Working in Care in Cornwall. This is the key to attracting and retaining people the right values and potential to grow our organisation to be able to deliver this vital service.
